Unless there's any damage (caused by you or not) with the line in the house, then it's £75.

how much do bt charge to install a line?

As others have said, you would need to get BT to install a new line at £99.
However, in doing so you will also be signing up for a 12 month contract with BT so will not be able to move to the TalkTalk deal for a year!

And if you move house in the first year with talk talk, the day your services are transferred to your new address is the day you start ANOTHER 12 month contract. And you have to pay ANOTHER £29.99 connection fee too.
And you need to get credit checkled before the international call thing is activated on your line.

According to http://www.theregister.co.uk/2006/04...one_broadband/ people not on LLU will get charged an extra £9.99 per month on top!

And their availability checker is off line at the moment. Great start.

Oh and if you're not part of that 70% yes you will be charged £10 extra, but that is still a great deal if you ask me ...

that's because it's LLU which means low prices but a lot of pain for some time to come. see Wanadoo storys for details of the pain. eg. my friend is on Wanadoo - for a month now her adsl has been down, they have been telling her it's a BT fault and they dont know how long it will be until it's fixed. they wont allow her out of her contract. they have now put her on dial up. I found out about this at the w/end and sent her links from the register and told her to complain to wanadoo as it's their LLU that's the fault not BT. She rang Wandaoo and they agreed the problem was LLU but said it was BT's fault and hard luck, enjoy your dial up!
LLU isn't the leading edge of broadband, it's the bleeding edge.

Re: [Merged] Car Phone Warehouse BB
So is it better to stick with NTLs 2MB for £19.99 or go with TalkTalk?

Re: [Merged] Car Phone Warehouse BB
I for one am going to wait for at least a couple of months to see how many complaints there are. There are bound to be some whingers, as there are at any ISP. I guess the main thing is to try ringing customer services before signing up - if they don't answer in 10 minutes then forget it.

Re: [Merged] Car Phone Warehouse BB
I just don't understand why they're deploying 8Mb systems. I would hope that their systems are all 24Mb-capable (as Be are already using), otherwise they'll have to replace everything again soon.
If they were doing 24Mb then NTL might as well give up and go home, as I doubt you could ever match this over a shared network.

Yep, NTL are looking like the person walking towards the fire, wondering why everyone else is going the other way. They will get burnt.
