Or have I got it totally wrong? Was “The Silver Spitfire” a thing in 1943?
Pretty much spot on. It was a normal mk ix originally with 118sqn painted up with the same livery as any other aircraft in the unit.

This aircraft is one of the best airworthy examples in terms of original spec which is where the writer of the piece seems to have misinterpreted their research.

One pager containing everything you need to know about the Spitfire but were afraid to ask. Exam questions will follow.

Re: Plane Spotters Corner

I have to say that along with the sounds of lawnmowers and strimmers around here is the sound of the Spitfire from the local Solent Airfield on it's daily runs around Lee-on-Solent and the Isle of Wight for paying passengers. I wish I had a spare £1500 to take a trip.

3x B2s arrived at Fairford last night. Callsigns Death11, 12 and 13

Not due on any exercise or rotation so it appears to be a case of moving the big stick closer to the naughty step.

Re: Plane Spotters Corner

So we've had the terrible end of Thomas Cook as seen in THIS thread.

Now yet another airline has suspended flights and looks set for the same fate...Currently temporarily but who knows in thiese turbulent times.

Unusual site yesterday morning in west Kent... at high altitude there were 5 fighters escorting a much larger aircraft (V formation) ... flying south-south east.

You probably saw the 366th Fighter Wing F-15s which departed Lakenheath yesterday morning (although there were supposed to have been 6 leaving). Larger aircraft was probably a KC-135 tanker.

ZJ783 up from Hereford (one of the SAS "Blue Thunder choppers) just did a couple of ILS practice approaches into Liverpool.

There have been quite a few Ryanair and Easyjet positioning flights over the past few days. Possibly a sign that they are preparing to begin operations again soon.

We still have Loganair flights in from the Isle of Man every day and the Wideroe flight from Bergen which I guess has been ferrying oil and gas industry workers.

Lots of RAF and AAC training activity as well taking advantage of clear skies.
