Re: ESPN, BT, Euro, Premier and Sky Sports news

Although this deal has been agreed between the EFL management committee and Sky, if you read the article on BBC website it states that there is a meeting (tomorrow I believe) of the Championship clubs who were not in favour of this deal.

Reportedly undervalued, too long, don't like the midweek games all being broadcast (affecting attendances) etc etc.

Compared with the PL deal it does seem a miserly amount per game.

Watch this space, I think

Well apart from the PL package they have, the FA Cup.

They also have a monopoly on Premiership rugby and the European Rugby Cup.

The next Ashes series in Australia will also be on BT.

Re: ESPN, BT, Euro, Premier and Sky Sports news

Facebook have confirmed that they have no current plans to bid for the Premier League. There was speculation that they may have been planning to bid for the rights to show Premiership zFootball on their new 'Watch' service.

I think YouTube is of the same mind, although I haven't been aware of a firm denial from them.

I still think the most likely competition in this area will come from Amazon, Disney or Discovery, but early days yet. A lot can happen in three years!

I would be very interested in your reasons for having such a strong opinion on why streaming won't ultimately take over, Den. Sure, there are some problems at present, but these will be ironed out over the next couple of years or so. Super fast broadband continues to be rolled out, streaming services will improve and latency will be resolved. Given that, what is to prevent it?

"Super fast broadband continues to be rolled out" - very very slowly, in fact much of the country struggles with super slow broadband.

"Given that, what is to prevent it" - cost of obtaining meaningful rights and ability to sell the streams - 19 of 22 championship clubs are already up in arms over the latest 5 year tv deal, they are considering suing the EFL management over the deal - part of the problem is the pseudo-streaming of championship mid-week games with attendances falling.

I think some of these EFL clubs have delusion of grandeur, the audiences for these games is not all that.

Really - 'disillusion of grandeur' ( I assume you mean delusion), I would rather watch 2 of the top teams from the Championship playing in front of 30,000+ fans than 2 of the lesser PL sides playing in front of 15-20,000)

I think this is part of the Championship teams beefs with the PL games getting around 25 times the tv fee of the Championship games.

TV audience talks , advertising etc. Sky obviously had the highest bid, what else is the EFL board to do. They could go down the streaming route and we all know where that ends at the present time.

Eleven Sports is providing content to STV Player now according to A516digital here.

Now given VM is getting STV Player soon, that means at least some VM customers with get some Eleven Sports content free.

I can't see the STV channel being made available south of the border, but maybe their on demand service will. Not that such a development would help you with live sport.

You can watch STV on some devices now, as long as you enter a Scottish postcode.

So the rest of the UK are unable to see these matches through that platform. A bit unfair!
