Just put the air conditioner on in our bedroom. Several hours and it will be a cool oasis.

I sleep with mine on every night in the summer, my bedroom is south facing and around 25c, mine cools the room down very quickly and then maintains the temp i set it at.

Re: The Happy Thought Thread Part 4
Well as you may know my mums been in hospital since July 11th.
A scan showed 2 masses/tumours in her heart.
Well on Monday she went to the heart hospital in Basildon.
Today the Dr said Basildon couldn't see anything wrong with her heart, and the dizziness she was getting could be a result of low blood pressure and so the stopped her blood pressure pills.
Then told her she could go home.

Is that an installed or portable unit?

Not if the person doing the scan knows what they are doing l would say as l have had plenty of scans on my heart and it always confirms the thoughts of my consultant.
If there is a heart problem it should show up quite clearly on a scan unless there is a problem with the scanner or the person doing it is not a qualified scanner and got it completely wrong..

Re: The Happy Thought Thread Part 4
Just upgraded my lad’s laptop - it’s one of my old work laptops (Tosh R700-15X - 8 years old, but i5 chip so should still run fine); it had been running very slow recently, and it had corrupted sectors on the 320GB Hard Drive, and some corrupted system files.
I downloaded the latest Win10 release, ran various commands (Sfc /scannow and various DISM), then cloned the C: drive to a new 480GB SSD, swapped them over, and Robert’s your mother’s brother.
Improvements
Boot time - 5 minutes to 20 seconds
Log on time - 2-3 minutes to 5-7 seconds
Chrome web page - 30 seconds to 2 seconds
Word document - 1 minute to 3 seconds
It’s only got 4GB memory (2x2GB), so I’ll change that out for 2x4GB next month - only cost £60 (and my time) so far, and another £40 next month for the memory.

Re: The Happy Thought Thread Part 4
It's a portable unit like this one
I put the vent hose up a disused chimney and feed it through a sheet of cardboard and polystyrene taped to the fireplace to seal it. Rated 8,000 BTU, that's about 2.5KW
Came from B&Q a good few years ago.
Full tilt the fans and compressor make some noise but it's not too disturbing.

Looks good. I've been thinking of getting a portable unit.

Re: The Happy Thought Thread Part 4
Never seen need for A/C in the UK most of the time. In car only use it to aid demisting or if stuck in traffic where fumes prevent opening window. At home I'm still sleeping under the duvet though wife is just using a sheet. Windows open at tilt, door open to help cycle air through. A/C make too much noise and can over cool or blows air at me which I don't like.

Got the perfect job to do today: Power wash the patio and furniture. Lots of cold water spraying about. Shorts, tank top and bare feet.
