A truly shocking day for Australian cricket!!!!

Australia captain Steve Smith stands down as captain for rest of Test after "premeditated cheating".

Quote:
Smith said on Saturday that the team's "leadership group" had spoken about a plan to tamper with the ball, carried out by batsman Cameron Bancroft.
Quote:
Michael Clarke, Smith's immediate predecessor as Test captain, called it "a terrible day for Australian cricket", described the plan as "premeditated cheating" and condemned its instigators for choosing rookie batsman Bancroft to carry it out.

Quote:
Meanwhile, the former Australia wicketkeeper Adam Gilchrist called the side the “laughing stock” of world cricket and has called Smith’s long term future into question.

Re: A truly shocking day for Australian cricket!!!!

Australia captain Steve Smith, vice-captain David Warner and batsman Cameron Bancroft will be sent home after ball tampering.

Quote:
Sutherland added that the sanctions to be handed down to Smith, Warner and Bancroft within the next 24 hours will be "significant".

Nothing less then a lengthy ban one expects.

Should be banned for life for deliberately cheating.

Re: A truly shocking day for Australian cricket!!!!

They were ball tampering throughout the Ashes but we were too polite to say anything ! They'd needn't have bothered as they'd have still won.

If Smith et al had come clean and admitted it all i'd have a little sympathy. But I'm afraid its just crocodile tears for the cameras and they've only admitted to the things they were caught doing. Ban them for life and anyone else caught tampering or fixing matches.

Re: A truly shocking day for Australian cricket!!!!

The trouble is the ICC are too weak and factional and will never ban them for life Mr K.
