Re: X Factor : 2009

This is a total mockery of music in this day and age, whoever gets to that No1 spot should be down to cds sold in the shops, and not down to downloads,

When the shops close, obviously you are going to get more downloads and that will go onto win, that horrible song should NOT be No1, Christmas is a time for good music and the festive season, terrible result, but there again there was this internet war by stupid people who wanted revenge of reality shows.- people should grow up.

Re: X Factor : 2009

and a reality show should pre-determine the Xmas number one slot.

i dont care about Rage or the song (never liked it first time, thought it was childish) but anything that keeps X-factor off the top is fine with me.

fed up of these manufactured flybynight 15min popstars.

Why should it only be down to CD sales? That would be stupid because why would people want to buy discs just to put them on their iPod and then put them away forever, at least if it's a download it's not a waste of buying a CD. The Climb is not a Christmas song, it's just some silly song from a Disney film, what gives that the right to be number 1 over any other song. Exactly, NOTHING!

Re: X Factor : 2009

Absolutely brilliant news and a kickstart for commonsense maybe now the public will not be led like sheep by the Simon Cowell gravytrain.

Why should the battle for the Christmas Number One be left to whoever wins the X Factor, maybe this will stop this musical charade happening again.

I bought a copy of the Rage against the Machine single in the hope that it would win and it came up trumps.

If the is another X Factor aimed a Christmas next year then I will buy the rival track once again.

The came arguement could have been applied to Vinyl and CDs.. There are still a lot of people around that don't consider CD to be a good medium for music (the reproduction is too cold and too clinical, apparently).

My own opinion is that while I don't think downloads are necessarily a good thing for the economy (local record shops did employ a *lot* of people, and have been hit hard by both the supermarkets and downloads), they are a valid way of determining what people like.

Christmas isn't (and has never been, IMO) a time for good music. Even the so called classic christmas songs (Rockin around the christmas tree, Slade etc) are not actually good songs.

It's been known in the past for people releasing singles that may not be musically the best, but are often quite fun and at least vaguely linked to Christmas. Now it seems to have become a cash cow for Simon Cowell.

Sorry, but I don't buy that he isn't cashing in on Xmas. While he stated that the timing of the Xfactor final and single release is entirely co-incidental, I cannot believe that. TV schedules are planned in great detail and months ahead. He would have known months ago that the x factor was due to end around Christmas, and I'd be staggered if, as the owner of the rights to one of ITV's most watch programmes, he didn't have at least some say in when it started..

Re: X Factor : 2009

Years ago, Christmas No1's were hit by a mad rush of groups and singers who tried there hardest to get that special spot, you could go to any record dept and buy the disc, and thats how it was determined.

And getting that spot was great, but now it has gone loopy, and all companies want to do is get revenge on the ITV show, what about the actual singer, or doesn't that count, its like not buying a record of Jami Cullam becuase he won the show on BBC. and look how famous he is now.

Gone Loopy? Cowell has had it for the last 4 years! That destroyed the Christmas No 1 excitement until this year

Dunno what your getting so excited about Arthur as Joe will still have his 5 minutes of fame before he goes back to the dole queue.

And Rage will probably drop out of the charts next week since the point has been made.

Actually the song that won is an anti corporate protest song..It may not be Christmasy but I'd like to point out that very many of Christmas number ones of the past 50 years have not been anything to do with Christmas.

Everyone of the 5 Christmas hits the Beatles achieved had no reference to any Christmas elements what so ever and they are all classic rock songs.

Now it's not cost effective to go and buy a number 1 record.Vinyl has gone and not many want a CD for one single.Downloading one MP3 that you can replay on your PC or MP3 player is where technology has taken us.Cannot see anything wrong with that myself.
