Re: Windows 11

I set TPM to on and now it reports that it will run Win11. And it's a free upgrade (but for how long will the upgrade be free?)

most likely indefinitely seeing as Windows 7 can still be upgraded free to Windows 10 even though the promotion ended years ago

Another feature I am excited about is Windows 11 being able to run Android Apps. So far it is said Andord Apps will be available from the MS store and the Amazon Apps store but it also looks like you will be able to side load other apks too.

This is a cracking feature imo

Bluestacks allowed android apps to be run on w7, 8.1 and 10 so no breakthrough.

Wow I did not know that ... oh yeah I have, I have not lived under a stone

Plenty of ways of running Android on a PC Bluestacks is not the only one. I have also run Android X86 as well as Remix OS and Pheonix OS but the reveal says they run natively in the OS and hopefully nothing like the as riddled bloat box Bluestacks is

I only mentioned Bluestacks as an example. It has been possible to run Android apps with a few options not just Bluestacks.

I still don't see it as a reason to go onto windows 10 or 11. I'll stick with w7 for now then most likely go linux of one form or another.

That is your choice, but for me most the people that come to me with issues use windows and I like to just be able to use the majority of software and play any game I want so Windows it is for me, plus I like to keep up with the new stuff so I will and will go into it with excitement which is my choice

Re: Windows 11

Looks like I'm out of luck. My PC is only 9 years old, Core i7 720 and P6TSE mobo and runs fine. Just upp'd RAM to 18GB (fits in sets of 3).
Going to be fun dual booting various Linux's with TPM. Some are signed but some aren't and why beholden to MS.

Bios/ Security/ Intel Platform Trust Technology Enable
As with all these things, it's never that simple...

On System Information, it was showing my BIOS Mode was "Legacy" and that Secure Boot State was "unsupported".

Boot disk must be GPT (mine is MBR), so I needed to convert it (used the MBR2GPT command)

Then I needed to go into BIOS to boot up from UEFI, then I needed to switch on TPM...

And I get this - "TPM not available"

Device Encryption Support - Reasons for failed automatic device encryption: TPM is not usable, PCR7 binding is not supported, Hardware Security Test Interface failed and the device is not Modern Standby, Un-allowed DMA-capable bus/device(s) detected, TPM is not usable

I had issues getting secure boot enabled but got there in the end. Just waiting for 11 to come onto the Dev channel now and see if I have actually done everything I need to lol

Re: Windows 11

Yup, just went into Boot setup and enabled it in a couple of places, and it's now all hunky-dory - got the "This PC can run Windows 11" message when I ran the PC Health Check.

Thanks for all your help - much appreciated.

Re: Windows 11

First build of Windows 11 available to Windows Insiders today
Today, we’re releasing the first preview build of Windows 11 to the Windows Insider community. In support of the Windows 11 system requirements, we’ve set the bar for previewing in our Windows Insider Program to match the minimum system requirements for Windows 11, with the exception for TPM 2.0 and CPU family/model. By providing preview builds to the diverse systems in our Windows Insider Program, we will learn how Windows 11 performs across CPU models more comprehensively, informing any adjustments we should make to our minimum system requirements in the future. We look forward to the product feedback and learnings as it’s an important step to prepare Windows 11 for general availability this year – thank you to the Windows Insider community for your excitement and feedback thus far!

so if tests go ok they might change CPU requirements
