Networking between 2 Win 10 PCs

Networking problem between 2 Win 10 64 bit PCs called Main and Laptop.

Ethernet wired connection.

Both are running the same security software (Malwarebytes and Defender).

Sharing the same on both PCs.

Main can access the drives and files on Laptop but Laptop only sees my VM Hub 3 no drives or files.

I do not want a home group.

Any idea what the problem may be?

Re: Networking between 2 Win 10 PCs

Firewall on Main and/or the network type is set to Public.

Set the network type to Private and turn off the Firewall for private connections

Re: Networking between 2 Win 10 PCs

Ok. Things to check;

1) Is the machine definitely called ‘main’? Check this by opening Command Prompt and typing HOSTNAME and then enter. This will display you the name of the machine

2) check the firewall again

3) check that your laptop is trying to connect using the right IP address for main. On main, open Command Prompt and type IPCONFIG and the enter. Make note of the IPv4 address. Then on Laptop, open Command Prompt and type PING MAIN and make note of the IP address it tries to contact. If it shows nothing or the wrong IP, then type PING followed by the IP address you took note of on MAIN and check the result.

Do you use a VPN? I had an issue like this until I disconnected my VPN.
