Sky Cinema offer.

Yesterday I was offered Sky Movies for £16.01 a month from an unsolicited phone call.

When I said that it wasn't worth it, this came down to £11.01 and she would be making the change today. Once again I had to reiterate that she should not touch my account and leave it alone. I can't stand these attempts to manipulate people, it's beyond upselling, it's pure manipulation.

Eventually she said it would only cost £6.01 a month more and would protect me from price rises for 18 months.

They said that last time, but still tried to increase my bill after the last price increase until I rang to complain. In the end they negated the price rise & knocked a bit more off for the inconvenience.

This also shows that accepting this offer puts one into another 18 month contract; something that was never mentioned. This sly way of operating could be useful though, as it would be very difficult to hold someone to a contract that they were not advised that they were entering into.

I'm posting this as it might help anyone who actually wants Sky Cinema (even in it's present state) ie refuse the first offers to get it even cheaper, but beware of the pitfalls

Didn't you just post about this in another thread you started a couple of days ago? Why do we need to know all about it again?

Judging by the only replies received it seems that there's little point in posting things to try & be helpful to other members any more.

Why don't you update your preferences with Virgin media to not have promotional calls..... Then you won't get these sales calls

Because I might be interested in what they have to offer, I've had 24/7 free calls & virtually free Sky Cinema from them in the past.

I aways try to save us both time by asking them to cut to the chase, but they insist on reading their script "how are you today", "what's the weather like" in an attempt to build an artificial rapport before trying to upsell with the aid of lies & manipulation.

They can be useful for getting good deals, but you have to watch your back with them.

Re: Sky Cinema offer.

Personally I like the fact there is room for negotiation with VM - does take a little bit of effort but can save money vs. standard prices. My Oomph renewal started at £110 as best offer but managed to get it for £99 (I think the call handler felt sorry for me in the end as I got back through to him again lol)

That's good

I forgot to mention that the one that rang me tried to "upgrade' me from Full House to their current top pack. This costs more in return for not having the children's channels!!!

I guess the old Full House will not be aggressively updated in future, channels will disappear as the close and new channels may not be added. COLORS Gujarati could be an example of this, it wasn't added to the old Full House whereas the older COLORS channels are included.

I don't get many calls from Virgin, the only calls I seem to get are from a South Asian tech support guy asking about problems with my internet. I doubt these are genuine calls, I keep asking questions to find out how much technical knowledge they have (which is not a lot!). Eventually he hangs up. I hate scams.

These days there's little difference between these offshore call centre people and VM

Using these cheapo places also helps the scammers as VM customers are no longer surprised to hear a foreign sounding person call them purporting to be from the company.

When l contacted them my first offer was the package l am on with a price increase !!! took over two hours ( on screen chat) to get a deal and three names ,could have been the same person for all I know! Happy with an 18 month deal with a decrease of £11.50 per month.

You took up two hours of their time? I bet they were glad to see the back of you.

Sounds like you aren't as rich as you like to make out if you were that desperate to save under three quid a week.

No they came back three times over that time scale. Unlike you . I just do not wish to pay more than I have too . Guess that why you have so many problems cheap is not the same as best value for money. What is true is that looking after the pennies and the pounds look after them selves. As l can afford to spend as much time as l like on anything l wish l do.
