Spanish Flu affected the strongest and the fittest. There is always the possibility of a Covid variant popping up, that acts in the same manner.

So they don't know how many are unvaccinated just that it is at least 2. Good reporting as usual by BBC.

That's just one hospital.
At least 2 were unvaccinated AND in their 30s. Plus "average ages are lower than during the first two waves". If the more seriously ill are the ones in intensive care, that makes it 2 out of 5 being under 30.

Vaccination rates are slowing significantly though. The vulnerable over 50s were enthusiastic, the young less so.

Some of my wife's colleagues who refused the vaccine gone down with it. Will they have learnt their lesson that any side effects from a vaccine, pale into insignificance to the risks of covid? Maybe, but they are a bit thick...

someone can do a calculation of how many unvaccinated 18 - 30 year olds there are as a percentage of adult population.

That can then be assessed against the infection count since Mid-May. Maybe we’re approaching a herd immunity threshold among that group. We’ll know when the infection rate drops.

That’s what the government will be hoping, but there is no sign yet that it is dropping, contrary to what appeared to be the case as reported by a certain newspaper about a week ago.

If, as is being reported by some media & experts, you can catch it twice (or more) how can we reach herd immunity?

You will always get some cases of double infection.

I had German measles twice, something that would never normally happen.

Some people catch it twice, but you can still reach herd immunity providing that most people don't.

Also it appears that many who have caught it twice had two different variants. Just as vaccines created for the original variant are less effective against Delta etc, presumably so is natural immunity.

Vaccination doesn't equal immunity, does it?

But it does reduce hospitalisation, meaning that it becomes like a flu experience and a somewhat normal risk.
