Re: The Happy Thought Thread Part 4
My niece, and her girlfriend, moved into their first flat, it is a gated community.
I popped in on Monday and had a cuppa, her girlfriend had joined the police and when she works nights she will be happy that my niece will have some better security.

Gated communities are residential housing areas — neighbourhood's, estates, and so on that have controlled access.

Re: The Happy Thought Thread Part 4
I've heard of controlled access single buildings, but whole communities, thats new (to me).

Most of the time it's just a gate that residents have a code or fob to access at the front of the street, not guards or anything like the American version and it's not going to keep out anyone who wants to get in, just deter opportunists

Re: The Happy Thought Thread Part 4
I can understand them for vulnerable people but not normally in the UK. It's not like there are gangs of gun totting thugs running around and we shouldn't be acting like there are. We like the ability for folk just to drop round without needing to announce themselves.
Still all the best to both of them.

Fingers crossed for you.
My happy is that I have just installed a bog standard £6.99 15 meter phone cable delivered over night by Amazon ( other suppliers and lenghts are available ) which fits into the supplied VM Hub3 adapter and can now have the landline phone where I want it rather than within a short distance from the hub.
Waste of a tech visit just to find out he was only allowed to fit a 3 meter extension which transfered me over to whater it's called now but left my phone in a position that wasn't where we wanted it. Maybe he was telling fibs and didn't want to be bothered .. hope not we gave him a cup of tea but he did confirm all we needed was a longer phone cable

Re: The Happy Thought Thread Part 4
When I bought my BMW 3 years ago I thought it would be the best car I’ll ever own (and was up to that point) by the repair costs were astronomical plus the cost of fuel to Leicester and Leeds was kneecapping me each time so I sold it and went for a 308 GT which was still thirsty but not as bad. But obviously with it being a French motor the electrics kept playing up so I got rid of that and now I have the Mondeo, 2.2 TDCI Titanium X Sport which goes like the proverbial brown stuff off a shovel and being Diesel is cheaper to run. Loving the extra trim pack and in all honesty I’d say it better than the BMW. My son loves it (very important!) and my 20 year old daughter no longer thinks I’m driving a midlife crisis car
(The red mats were the first to go!)
