Aidan O'Brien faces a race against time getting Kingsbarns fit for the Qipco 2000 Guineas after the unbeaten colt suffered a setback.

The Ballydoyle trainer has revealed the Racing Post Trophy winner was forced to miss important work after he developed a foot infection, meaning he was also unable to join many of his big-race stablemates in a post-race workout after racing at the Curragh on Sunday.

The team is headed by St Nicholas Abbey in the Dubai Sheema Classic, a race in which he finished second to Cirrus Des Aigles last year, though other leading lights include sprinter Starspangledbanner and potential stayer Imperial Monarch.

Trainer Ed Dunlop accepts Red Cadeaux "has a mountain to climb" when he contests the Dubai World Cup at Meydan on Saturday.

The much-travelled seven-year-old has already won nearly £1.8million in prize-money in an outstanding career and will now get the chance to shine in the richest race on the planet.

Owner Dai Walters has confirmed Oscar Whisky remains on course to bid for a hat-trick in the John Smith's Aintree Hurdle on Thursday week.

Nicky Henderson's eight-year-old has won the Grade One prize by a neck from Thousand Stars for the last two years, but returns to Merseyside with something to prove, having been pulled up following a disappointing display in the Ladbrokes World Hurdle at Cheltenham.

JT McNamara: Jockey to be transferred to spinal unit in Dublin.

Jockey JT McNamara is to be moved to a spinal hospital in Ireland following injuries sustained in a fall at the Cheltenham Festival earlier this month.

The 37-year-old had surgery after fracturing two vertebrae.

McNamara is to be transferred from Bristol's Frenchay Hospital to the National Spinal Unit in Dublin.

"He is now fully alert but requires full time ventilation at present," said a statement released on behalf of McNamara's family

Planteur primed for World Cup bid.

Planteur is reported to have settled in well at Meydan as he bids to improve on last year's third place in Saturday's Dubai World Cup.

The six-year-old was in the frame for trainer Marco Botti in 2012 and he warmed up for the trip with a comfortable success at in a Listed event at Lingfield last month.

With Botti remaining at home to supervise Solar Deity's bid for the Lincoln, his wife Lucia is doing the honours at the Emirates' flagship racecourse and she expressed her delight in the way Planteur moved in some light work on the track on Tuesday morning

Trainer Colin Tizzard has confirmed Cue Card on course for a thrilling possible clash with Sprinter Sacre in the John Smith's Melling Chase at Aintree on Friday week.

The last time the pair met was in last year's Arkle Trophy at the Cheltenham Festival, when Cue Card finished a seven-length runner-up behind Nicky Henderson's awesome stable star.

Sprinter Sacre has dominated the two-mile division this season, culminating in a glorious display in the Queen Mother Champion Chase, and connections are keen on testing him over two and a half miles on Merseyside next week.

O'Sullevan suffers 'mild stroke'

Sir Peter O'Sullevan is in Charing Cross Hospital, London, after suffering a mild stroke on Sunday evening, according to Nigel Payne, chief executive of the legendary former broadcaster's charitable trust.

O'Sullevan, 95, is to undergo further tests in the next couple of days.

"Sir Peter had a mild stroke on Sunday night, which he detected himself. He called the doctor and was admitted to hospital and is currently in the stroke unit," said Payne.

Lets hope the great man recovers quickly.

Injured Beshabar out of National.

Beshabar has been ruled out of the John Smith's Grand National at Aintree on Saturday week after suffering an ankle injury.

Winner of the 2011 Scottish National for Welsh trainer Tim Vaughan, the 11-year-old has not been seen in competitive action since finishing fifth in that year's Hennessy Gold Cup, having been sidelined with a tendon injury.

Vaughan had been carefully preparing Beshabar for the National on April 6, but a fetlock problem means he will not be making the trip to Merseyside.

Irish trainer Willie Mullins says leading Grand National contender Prince De Beauchene is out of the big race on 6 April with a minor stress fracture.

"He will require at least six weeks' box rest so will miss the Aintree Grand National," said Mullins.

Sole Power enjoyed himself in some light work on the all-weather at Meydan on Wednesday morning as he prepares for Saturday's Dubai World Cup card.

The six-year-old is set to tackle the five-furlong Al Quoz Sprint on the turf, a race in which he finished second last year. He warmed up for the task with a recent second behind the reopposing Shea Shea at Meydan earlier this month and is set to be partnered by Johnny Murtagh once again.

Ante-post favourite Hunter's Light will break from stall four in Saturday's Dubai World Cup at Meydan.

The Saeed bin Suroor-trained five-year-old was a Group Two winner at the track in February and sealed his place at the head of the market when winning the third round of the Maktoum Challenge earlier this month.

He is one of three runners in the Godolphin blue for the 10-furlong showdown, with last year's winner Monterosso going for glory again from stall 10 and African Story in 11

Alfie Sherrin was a surprising absentee at the latest forfeit stage for the Ladbrokes Irish Grand National at Fairyhouse.

Jonjo O'Neill's 10-year-old had been a leading fancy for the Easter Monday showpiece since the weights were released.

Alfie Sherrin is owned by JP McManus and his racing manager Frank Berry explained that a hard race at Cheltenham, where he finished fourth behind Same Difference in the Kim Muir, had left its mark.
