In all fairness Damien, I think it's a bit harsh to bring that up.
IMO, it would be naive to believe that any club is completely blameless when it comes to payments to agents - the only reason that Man U's apayments are all over the press is because of the 99 questions that Magnier and his mate (sorry, can't remember his name) sent to the board.
Also, it has to be said, I think Man U have handled it quite well - they've come out now and said that they won't be using the Elite agency anymore, in an attempt to make the whole issue of transfers to / from the club more transparent which, again IMO, should result in a for the club (and no, I'm not a Man U supporter!)

Re: [Merged] - Football talk
So what do the United fans think of Smith being signed for 7mill? I can't see where he is going to play, and can see him spending a lot of time warming the bench.
Also very sad to see Houllier getting the chop, I thought he was doing a great job for Liverpool

That would refer to management and not the team.

How is it the same? On one hand you have actions by upper management which do not directly affect the team - alleged inappropriate actions during the signing of players. But with Dean, his position of influence would indicate the Arsenal team directly benefits with certain decisions which aren't going to go the way of other teams.

on paper doesn't sound like our greatest signing ever.. but he wouldn't be the first player we've signed whose managed to step up a few gears since joining us.. until he's played a few games don't think we'll really know...
i think Fergie wants to get back to 99 when we had 4 strikers and could rotate and no one really knew what we were going to do

Let's hope he's a better signing than 'donkey' Diego Forlan....
That guy couldn't hit a cow's arse with a banjo.

I think its the same agents can influence if players go to a club or not and they are getting paid and those players are a DIRECT affect on the team TIm howard is one of the bigger cases and hes your goalkeeper. Also dont say 'alleged' even united admitted the stories. ALso your manager was mixed up with the dealings.
So:
-it was not just upper management
-it was not alleged it was true
-THe fact that these players play for the team means they do affect the tea,
Also I dont see how Dean has ever helped arsenal with his position

Re: [Merged] - Football talk
lol 2nd rate?
Why? Because he's not a experianced foreigner? blah.
Smiths workrate is immense, his passion is brilliant. I went to watch Manu vs Leeds this season, and Smith's workrate embaressed majority of the Man utd team.. Give him a few games and he'l be just what RVN wants.

your comparing him to ruud ?
they are in a diffarent league.....
RVN - world class.
smith - barely premership material.
i dont see smith as adding much to the team, sure he has his 'good matches' but he is inconsistent, not to mention his fiery tempriment.
im awaiting for him to prove me wrong. (i will give him a chance)

Re: [Merged] - Football talk
I think he`ll be a good player for united. He`s the fifth signing from Leeds over the years and not one of them has been a bad player.
McQueen, Jordan, Cantona, Ferdinand and now Smith.
