Re: 6.7% Price Increase From February!

Finally received my letter today, a £6.25pm increase. Ridiculous so will be ringing retentions to negotiate a new deal or will leave. I happen to work for a division of BT and can get BT Infinity for a grand price of £1 as an employee perk. Haven't considered it before as the bundle discount I would lose by going to TV only would effectively cancel almost all of my saving but with this rise it is different. Retentions will have their work cut out to keep me as a triple play customer!

This is where excessive price rises become self defeating.

Well I'm staying, rang retentions and agreed to sign up for 12 months with a new lower price deal but have dropped BB from 60 to 30MB which will be uplifted to 50MB next year so only 10MB below what I am on now. Additional discounts given but one thing to watch out for is that the main bundle discount is for 18 months only not indefinite. But in 18 months time I'll be ringing retentions again! Was always going to keep the TV as like Tivo and need 3 tuners in my house. It was just the BB/Phone which was a threat but overall deal was good enough to avoid the effort of moving.

Price rises are never nice, not sure if i got a letter, had one saying about an increse, but that they were upping my net to 150 aswell, so i just chucked it aside.

Out of curiosity, out of all of you, who smokes? on average a packet of fags costs £7, yet some of the previous messages are moaning about an increase of £4 a month.

Don't get me wrong, i agree an increase is bad, if £4 in a month is too much then maybe all of your finances could be looked into, not just who your TV provider is.

Yes l quite agree with your sentiment as some customers probably spend up to £100 a month on fags and alcohol and that's probably a conservative estimate in some cases and yes we are not happy with our £5 rise but we have cut our family cloth accordingly and because of changes in other parts of our budget we are now £55 better off each month.

Re: 6.7% Price Increase From February!

Currently pay 61 quid a month for 20mb broadband, TV XL and evening and weekend call package, Normal bill is about 80 quid a month including calls to mobiles and daytime calls. Have been with Virgin since 2001 and this week asked for a replacement wirless router for my Hudl tablet. Virgin wanted 17 quid a month upgrade to the broadband and 20 quid shipping. I went to Maplin and bought a router instead........ I feel like I am being ripped off and am ready to change but am reluctant to leave the Virgin coax for the poor quality BT twin pair that all other providers utilise.

Sounds like you're paying over the odds. You should be able to get a discount if you ring retentions although it'll mean signing up for another year. Its a pain to have to go through this rigmarole, there isn't any other company I have to do this with. I've been a customer since 1996 - dread to think what I'd be paying if I'd never challenged the price. There must be a large proportion that never do, or even realise they can haggle.

What annoys me most about this latest rise is the 6.7% figure - it's complete lies and only only relates to line line rental increase from £14.99 to £15.99. Most package rises are a lot larger, Remains to be seen if VM have got too greedy.

As for a router - I've never received one from VM , on account of being a long serving loyal customer. I've always bought my own - which is needed to supplement their cruddy equipment.

According to your profile you are on BB L, so I'm guessing it's BB L 20Mbit.

So as part of the next set of upgrades you'll be offered the option to go to 50Mbit with a SuperHub 2

Anyone on higher tiers will either have already got a SuperHub, SuperHub 2 or in some older cases a VMNG300 with a router.

So by the time the next set of speed upgrades finish, VM will have offered everyone a solution that includes a router at some point.

Even I, as a lowly BB M 20Mb customer, have been advised that I will get an increase to 50Mb at no additional charge (other than that already advised to me as a general price increase in the new year).

I guess I'll becoming mainstream and a BB L customer or perhaps still a BB M 50Mb customer.

PS At least there'll be no hassle over provision of a Superhub 2, as I have one already as a triallist for the product - for my needs, it's been a superb device.

Officially it'll still be BB M 50Mbit I believe, however that's for billing reasons e.g some old bundles only work with BB M and not BB L

From a technical point of view BB M and BB L 20Mbit are the same thing, so the same will be true of 50Mbit.
