Re: Will you take TIVO one the email that you got today?
I'm gonna leave it till its cheap, I appreciate that may be ages. Its a good product and probably worth the money with a 1TB drive but times are tight at the moment. I'm happy with V+HD for now.

Now, how long it will take for that to become more popular is hard to say. Apparantly the growth in TV sales is not in 3D sets, but in 'connected' TVs.
I suspect Sky will have another box in development, but when you look at future content delivery, ATM, Sky are behind.

You've kind of answered your own question here , if online content and streaming is your thing why pay for TIVO with a monthly fee and XL fee when theres connected TV's , blu-ray , games consoles and youview and Google TV around the corner all sub free.

I know Youview will be relying on those telephone wires for non VM customers (kind of obvious), though some may have BT infinity. That's why, if you're a youview viewer in a VM area, you're best to get VM broadband or BT infinitey if that's available. Sky ADSL is not a good choice if the other two options are available.

Anytime+ is not restricted to Sky content at all, you really need to look at the service before passing those sorts of comments.
So EVERYONE is better getting VM (or Infinity) broadband for YouView eh? I think a 10mb VM customer like me might soon fall foul of the traffic management policy and possibly day in and day out too. A 1.5Gb download limit between 4-9 would soon be gobbled up using YouView, especially HD streaming and when you get reduced to 2.5mb for 5 hours you simply won't be able to stream HD. That's no criticsm of VMs's 10mb service as I have it and it's great, it's a crticism of your unconsidered post. On the other hand Sky's LLU service is totally uncapped so if you live in an area that benefits from fast ADSL it is a great service and perfect for YouView.

So, what non Sky content does anytime have and do you think it is capable of having the same range of content that VM Tivo can potentially have?

You do make a valid point, and you're right, it was a consideration I forgot about that I should have included for broadband provider.
It will be interesting to see what effect this has on all the BB companies with regard to downloading allowances when content streaming takes of with the Youview and such launches. Tivos dedicated BB connection should be free of the download limitations presumably, which will be another advantage of the Tivo connected functionality.

It's all a bit of guess work ATM, but because we're paying VM for a service, it's possible that they can do deals with the likes of Lovefilm, Spotify etc to get reduced subscription rates. It would be good for VM and Lovefilm/Spotify to do such a deal. It's not dissimilar to the way ESPN can be included in XLTV free of charge.
You can get music and film services now; I can get the Sony film and music service via my Sony BR player, but they are expensive in my view.
I suspect that the difference that paid for services like Tivo can offer compared to youview are similar to the differences between having regular Freeview TV and a pay TV service. Cindy Rose has said there will be 100 apps on Tivo within a year.
But all this is a bit of guesswork until the apps start appearing on Tivo and Youview is launched.

Yes it is, but you have to be a lovefilm subscriber to get it. It only streams the free film and most, though not all of the well known ones are older ones. As a freebie it's excellent. I would think Lovefilm would happily launch on VM with that scenario as they've said they want to get on as many connected platforms as possible.
But VM may be able to do a different deal with Lovefilm ---- reduced subscription rates and the ability to stream the films you would otherwise get through the post? ATM I believe VOD rights that Sky have got tied up could prevent some of this, but that is being investigated and now Lovefilm are fully owned by Amazon, they have more finacial clout to go up against Sky.
Of course, it doesn't have to be lovefilm, there could be other film providers that would want to do such a deal; there could even be lovefilm plus other providers

I know. and it's stereo rather than 5.1 audio.
But this will change over time and in my view it's more likely to change or become available on a pay platform with a dedicated interenet connection of at least 10meg, capable of going to 20meg.

You seem to be under some false hope that Lovefilm will prioritise TIVO customers over other connected devices , which will not happen as more people will always use the Lovefilm streaming service via other connected devices. The Lovefilm service will be the same service it provides to other devices and yes HD will come eventually although not for a while.

Re: Will you take TIVO one the email that you got today?
[QUOTE=passingbat;35204460]So, what non Sky content does anytime have and do you think it is capable of having the same range of content that VM Tivo can potentially have?
Sky Anytime+ has content from ESPN, Discovery, History, Nat Geo and many more broadcasters in addition to content from Sky's own channels. Clearly they are looking at getting BBC content on board otherwise why would they be complaining about the interface the BBC insist on, time will tell.
But really I have no idea what it will provide in the future, I suspect you don't know what Tivo will provide in future either. Potential is a wonderful thing and Tivo has bags of that but as things stand you can watch absolutely nothing with Tivo that you cannot watch with a 10 year old Pace V Box, in SD anyway.
I suspect Tivo will provide much more in future but like you I am merely speculating on that point. But remember that content comes at a price, that's why Sky charge for HD. Tivo needs unique Pay content for it to be a success, not catch up and LoveFilm that I can get on my PC or connected TV now. And certainly not YouTube.
All of which will quite possibly be provided by YouView.

I'm not under any false impression, I've said several times we're looking to future developments, that are currently unknown. This is the route VM took to prioritise BB connectivity, because connected content is the way of the future and VM with fast broadband and Tivo are set up for that future.
Again, I've said it doesn't have to be Lovefilm; there are other film providers out there.

Indeed, wait and see.
I think it important to clear up any misconceptions about what Sky Anytime+ is providing, and providing right now.
A lot of what Tivo can do is being done right now and not just by Sky. It needs something unique because as you quite rightly say YouView is on it's way and I personally think it is going to be a massive success.

And the fact that the Sky+hd box is a connected device the same way Youview will be. Is it possible Iplayer hasn't arrived on Sky due to the fact Anytime+ is only available to Sky BB customers , but the Beeb have to make it available on a service to all.

By saying 'Sky content.' I assumed you would take it to mean all the TV channels available on Sky. so what you say is available, is what i understood to be available on anytime+ anyway.
But with the present sky boxes, they can't add content from other places such as Lovefilm, Youtube etc., which is the point I was making.
