From a govt intranet service:
Quote:
In order to deliver the Government’s commitment to make job search and the ability to apply for a job accessible by interactive digital TV by 2005-06 a system has been developed that will enable jobseekers to access Job Bank vacancies via their interactive digital TV (iDTV).
A pilot service started in June, running until March 2005 using vacancies from the London area. This pilot will give all NTL/Telewest/Sky subscribers access to vacancies notified within a 15 mile radius of Central London.
Go live will be staggered over a period of a few weeks, due to individual digital TV providers updating their service. The dates are planned as follows:
21 June 2004 – Telewest service went live;
Exact date not yet confirmed for NTL service to go live; and
15 July 2004 – SKY service will go live.
Job Channel is a means of broadening the potential audience who will be able to access Jobcentre Plus vacancies. Jobseekers who may not use the Jobcentre Plus services provided in offices will be able to look at vacancies in the comfort of their own home at a time that suits them.
This is a new and exciting media for reaching jobseekers and we hope that a successful pilot using London vacancies will lead us to extend this service to other parts of the country.
Better than a shopping channel i suppose!
