Re: [Merged] - Football talk
2 main points of discussion for this post.
1) How can a team of immortals have to resort to cheating to beat portsmouth at home and only draw at OT thanks to a missed pen.. be three minutes away from being knocked out of Europe and then get knocked out later on and lose in the FA Cup semi final. If they were that good they would have won the log. I do think it is an amazing performance by the team and one i don't think will be repeated in England again but they did have quite alot of luck as well. Just gets me annoyed that when United won the treble the press were like well done your quite good... when it's another side who only win one trophy they are the greatest team ever to have lived.. alot of double standards by the press here.
2) How come SA got the world cup. What facilities and infrastrure have they got to host it.. We only just lost out on hosting the 06 tourny and we have far better stadiums, facilities and infrastructure that Germany and no it's going to a third world country.. Am sure they will do a good job but seems more of a political decision than a footballing one.. Don't think England or even GB will ever get to host the world cup again.

You have answered your own question correctly "political decision" for the same reason the UK will never win the Eurovision Song Contest again, not that give a *u*k

First of all Arsenal did not cheat or where 'lucky' to remain unbeaten every football team that is successful has a lot of luck. Man united have had a lot of luck in the past as well. The fact that we nearly lost at old trafford is because united missed not us you. Thats football you cannot keep going back and saying 'you wouldn't have won if he scored' because its stupid.
Second of all the press have always gone on and on about the treble and everyone is still saying 'arsenal is not man united cos they haven't won europe. Manchester has always had huge press because of its fan base the papers do talk about united a lot and united are still being prasied. Just accept that arsenal won and they deserved to. The league doent lie theres where the teams deserve to be, we accpeted it last year can you accept it this time?

Actually no, Arsenal fans did not accept United deserved to win last year - all we heard was "if we hadn't slipped up, we'd have won".
Show respect and you'll get it in return.

Re: [Merged] - Football talk
On the other hand, Liverpool dominated the English league for the best part of 20 years and yet throughout that period, Man Utd still managed to attract a whole pile of praise and attention, much of it IMHO as a Liverpool fan, entirely undeserved at that time. They had a big squad full of big names and a big budget, and what did they win in that time? Answer = not very much. But then, they are a very big club, with a very big image, and have been for a very long time. Man Utd are always going to be loved and loathed in equal measure for that reason, regardless of how well (or otherwise) they perform on the pitch.

It less of political correctness issue than is thought of, Sepp Blatter wanted a different continent for every world cup to ensure that it is fairly distributed to everyone, so North American for 94, Europe 98, Asia 02, Europe 06, African 10, so Europe 2014 ?

Not really political correctness, but most definately political, If it wasn't for the votes of Asian and African nations, that numpty Sepp Blatter would have been turfed out years ago.

yes a good point actually.. in the 70's and until the 90's we were basically crap.. with just a few FA Cups.. the liverpool side of the 70's and 80's was prob the best England side ever 4 European Cups can't be wrong..
I do think arsenal have been the best side all season but not by as much as the press make out.. Just don't like the fact that they are getting over praised but as you said i guess it has happened to us in the past as well.
Thing that really upset me was when i read the FA were thinking about giving the FA cup to arsenal if they won it! Would they ever do that to United ? How about giving us the Premiership trophy when they had tp put the new sponsors name on it.. we did win it 8 times in 10 seasons..

would have been nice of the country that invented the game had a chance at hosting it. we never stood a chance when we bid for it in 06.. it's all backhanders and vote trading etc..
seeing as we invented the game the FA wrote the rule book why don't we have anyone high up in FIFA or UEFA
