Re: Football Season 2010/2011

Newcastle have accepted a bid of £35 Million for Andy Carroll. I am not kidding, Liverpool will pay £35 Million for Carroll.

This will be a record for a British Player, higher than Rooney and Rio Ferdinand, I think and a lot of the fee for Torres. Bent was over £10 million cheaper, David Villa was cheaper for Barcelona. Villa is a top class striker who has won the world cup. It's not that much less than Barcelona would have had to buy Cesc Fabregas. Man City spent £27 million on Dzeko.

It is insane. He is nowhere near as good as that or has the ability to be worth it. He will never be worth more than this. It's crazy, Liverpool have no idea on the worth of footballers!

Re: Football Season 2010/2011

There won't be many more transfer windows where this sort of money is splashed around so it's all happening now!

At least Paul Konchesky has gone anyway. I hope his mam approves of how people in Nottingham talk.

£35 Million for Andy Carroll. Andy. Carroll. It's beyond understanding, even if he turns out to be great he is not worth £35 million. Not to mention he has a lot of baggage.

Re: Football Season 2010/2011

Its desperation, they know Torres is going so need a replacement. If Torres wasn't leaving i highly doubt they would be bidding £35million for him.

Even so. Plenty of other options at those prices and even if there isn't there is no hurry. They won't make top 4 or bottom 3. Wait until the summer...Absurd.

Re: Football Season 2010/2011

He's been watched for sometime and probably would have been a summer target but that amount of money is pretty ridiculous. The owners certainly don't mess about when it comes to splashing the cash but it's not exactly moneyball. Pretty gobsmacked here.

Re: Football Season 2010/2011

yeah but as been said 35m for Carroll... wouldnt even say 15m.

For 35m you can get some really decent strikers way better then Carroll.

That's the problem with hitting the panic button especially when the selling club knows how much is in the pot. You could say that Torres isn't worth £50M based on recent form.. I'd rather Roman's wealth wasn't redistributed to Mike Ashley though.

Spanish clubs are different to English, they all have release fees in their contracts, by signing a new deal he has got himself a payrise and reduced his release fee, just like Torres did just before he joined Liverpool.

But their release fees aren't legally binding. Spurs can bid for above the release clause and nothing will happen.

Err why would they do that and release fee clauses are legally binding in the sense that if a club bids that amount or more they must allow the player to talk to the club.

Not in Spain. It's weird.

Quote:
When you apply the law legally, it is a different price.

That means one of two things, both of which increase the price. Firstly, it can mean adding the VAT at 18 percent. In the past, clubs have agreed to include VAT in the invoice for a player's transfer (which of course can be claimed back from the state). Now, if the bid is hostile, they will not. In other words, the buying club will have to pay the clause plus the 18 percent. So, Aguero's price rises from €45M to €53.1M.

The other option is for a club to simply refuse to sell -- until, that is, it is forced to.... A player (not the club) deposits the money, the value of the buyout clause, at the Spanish league and unilaterally breaks his contract. That money, of course, would be given to him by the buying club in order to buy himself out. The problem is that as soon as that money hits his account it counts as income -- even if it is then deposited elsewhere. And so it is liable to taxation at 44 percent. In other words, the €45M is the amount left after taxation. That is to say that Aguero's overall cost is €80.2M ($109M).

The other factor that's significant is that the buyout clause is a Spanish agreement. When it comes to international transfers -- to bids from aboard like the one supposedly from Chelsea -- it is irrelevant. Except as a symbolic price, a reference point from which you can negotiate.
