Re: Queen Elizabeth II has DIED. R.I.P

Do you think they'll ever tell us what happened? How she went from being able to do her duties on Tuesday and then clearly something happened between then and Thursday morning.

Sometimes it’s just time to go. Especially when you’re 96.

At the age of 96 I do not think it really matters. What does matter is how she managed to do her last duties the two days prior, with a smile also. Clearly the bruised hand was (like mine at the time) was probably from a canula, and obvious she has not been well for some time, but she carried on. To me that sums up our Queen perfectly.

Apparently, when those in the armed forces pledge an allegiance to the Queen, this doesn't stop when they leave and is for life.

I wonder if this allegiance is carried forward to the new King or if they are now free to make their own choice?

Yes, I did too.

As a veteran my time has passed where i would be called up in time of emergency, However the oath of allegiance i took on signing up for the forces still stands now for King Charles III as it did for Queen Elizabeth II.

In the Tuesday appointment of new PM Liz Truss, she did look exceptionally pale, also looked very frail, the difference from July Queen, to her last few days, is massive.

I think her losing, her Husband, Duke of Edinburgh, after being with him for so long, took whatever was keeping her going, right out of her, in her last year.

You often find that, when one half of an elderly couple passes, the remaining partner isn't too far behind.

I think it is actually possible to 'die' of a broken heart.

Will all the MP's now have to make a new oath to the King or does their existing oath to the Queen simply pass on to him like it does for current and former service people?

Perhaps this is the actual reason that the oath of allegiance carries on afterwsrds- in case veterans need to be called up again?

Not sure what your fascination with oaths is, but no, the MPs oath (like the forces) covers the sovereign and their successors.

Quote:
I <name> swear by Almighty God that I will be faithful and bear true allegiance to <whoever>, her/his heirs and successors, according to law. So help me God.

I'm just interested in the mechanics of it all really as it's my first experience of this happening.

Re: Queen Elizabeth II has DIED. R.I.P

Taking oaths isn’t a necessity, nor was it necessary for King Charles to have been proclaimed King this weekend. It’s purely ceremonial, remember, British way isn’t following a written Constitution, but acting on precedent and conventions. That whilst it’s tragic, we’ve lost our Queen sovereign, the transfer of power happened on her death, not when they’re elected or certain oaths are performed.

Re: Queen Elizabeth II has DIED. R.I.P

Apparently, the Queen stopped breeding her corgis in 2015 as she didn't want any to be left without her.

It's being assumed on Facebook that they will be put to sleep, but I don't see why they would have to be and can't see it myself.

Other members of the family or staff who had got to know them could look after any remaining dogs.

Handy Andy’s getting them, seeing as the ones she has now were a recent gift from him and Fergie.

Part of me likes to think that she held on until she had confirmed the new PM then received the promotion call from her commander in chief to come home "good and faithful servant".

I do think that in some cases, it's possible to delay our passing. There are numerous cases where people have hung on until their family have been able to see them.

My advice to anyone who is ever in this position is to talk and reassure the person as they leave our plane of existence as this is the final sense that ends in our physical body.

Thank you Chris, it's a relief to know this.

There are isolated cases of people wishing to have their pets put to sleep upon their own passing, but I didn't think that the late Queen would have been the sort of person to do such a shellfish thing.

Making sure Boris was out the door was definitely God’s work

The last public photos of the Queen certainly show someone whose race is run, and is all peace and joy. These have been astonishing days.
