You're probably right about the BT Sports/footy, which makes it all the more infuriating if you're not interested in it. They should make BT Sports a separate package and reduce XL by £5 a month.

The fact is the 6.7% figure has just come from the increase in line rental from £14.99 to £15.99 and doesn't reflect that most are paying a lot more. Whoever said it was an 'average' increase needs to back it up with some figures.

Re: 6.7% Price Increase From February!

Are the prices on the website correct? I've not had a letter yet. I'm paying £37.00 a month for XL TV on its own with a Tivo. The website now says this is £31 a month, so going down by £6 - It doesn't look like a new customer offer either as there is no increase after x months.

Yes, they are now the 1st Feb prices. However, you will need to call in to get the lower price, as it requires a 12 month recontract based on the information I've seen.

If I recall correctly the old price was £32 if you paid by DD.

Are you not paying by DD?

I am paying by DD, it was £32 if you had a V HD but you paid £5 more for Tivo making it £37.

Ben, Can you please confirm for me that Virgin Media exists in some strange dimension of space and time where the laws of mathematics are fundamentally different than here on Earth?

...or explain the following:

Standalone TV XL with TiVo is £31 per month
Standalone BB L is £25 per month

What would you expect the price of a bundle containing these two services?

a) £56
b) less than £56
c) greater than £56

Answer is c). !!!!

TV XL + BB L is £61.99. It's also this price if you add a landline with Talk Weekends.

So that would seem to be the explanation. As I'm not part of any process to set prices, can't comment any further on the decision process for that.

Thanks managed to get it applied in the end, with another 12 month contract which I am happy with because it makes them a £1 cheaper than Sky now and I don't have to deal with the hassle of getting another line put in from the communal dish.

Re: 6.7% Price Increase From February!

Just had my letter through saying a £5.50 increase for me making that a 9% rise!

Seems very strange as I have Essential Collection with XL TV and my current package price is £60.99 before loyalty discount. Just been on VM website with new prices and same package is showing as £61.99. So if it is only going up £1.00, why have I got a letter saying £5.50?

Call to VM needed me thinks!

My rise is 3.6% which was just about on the limit of what I would accept.

VM's bizarre pricing model strikes again! Spoke to VM via online chat and apparently I'm on the 'old' Essential Collection with XL TV which will go up £5.50. However, if I re-contracted for another 12 months then I'll be put on the 'new' Essential Collection with XL TV and only have a £1.00 a month increase for the line rental from Feb (albeit I'll see no immediate rise due to me paying line rental saver).

Suffice to say a new contract is in the post!

Re: 6.7% Price Increase From February!

Just renegotiated my contract and had the paperwork through.

Amongst the range of services that they will be providing is "WiFi Tracking Code". Any clues?

Thank you, Ben.

I have to say it just seems very strange (possibly illegal?) that the price for two services is greater than the sum of the two individual services?

Re: 6.7% Price Increase From February!

I got my increase notification today (£5.75) for premier with 60MB BB, have paid advance line rental to Nov 2014.

Done some research, and it seems that downgrading to Essential collection will give me channels I need ( but lose some in HD) and 30MB BB (with possible future free upgrade) will be fine. Monthly fee will go from £52 to £28 plus line rental, if web site is correct, good saving!!!
