Re: *ALL* ntl 10MB Discussion (Part 3)

It's all pretty disappointing so far.

I've got an NTL:100 modem and according to http://www.irishisptest.com/myspeed/ I'm getting 3.63Mbps with an upstream of 492Kbps.

In fact, I was getting a faster connection last week before the official launch.

Is anyone else in Glasgow having the same experience? Should I be phoning NTL or are they still working on the upgrade?

Re: *ALL* ntl 10MB Discussion (Part 3)

Got home from work at about 3pm and tryed a download of a file and got around 360-370 kb/s
i rang Ntl to tell them that im still downloading at the same speed as 3mbit i said that i dont think ive been upgraded to 10mbit
She said i will upgrade you now i waiting a minute
She came back and said that i have already been upgraded today
got the question have i booted the modem
i said i will shut down both pc and modem and try that

So i did for like 10 minutes why i did abit off tiding up
Rebooted up tryed a download again from my own ntl webpage and tred microsoft webpage and still only got 360-370 kb/s

Im Running on a silver NTL modem and it says its a NTL: Home 200

Do i need to change to a NTL :Home 250

i cant understand why i havent seen any change in speed since ive been on 3mbit since ntl bought it out and never had any speed drops

Re: *ALL* ntl 10MB Discussion (Part 3)

As expected since the upgrade my connection has gone down hill more than ever, its slower than it used to be on the 3 Mb service pmsl.
typical speeds between 450 and 900 kbps down and according to speed test anything upto 20% packet loss, i did see 3 to 4.5 Mb during the day about 2 pm but its back down again now .
I hope they fix this soon, i only have this speed for gaming and with this amount of packet loss its actually quite funny, still i live in eternal hope.

Re: *ALL* ntl 10MB Discussion (Part 3)

My service was upgraded today, I use a Terajet T210, and I am seeing exactly 8Mbit down, and 512k up...

I am happy, to be honest the extra 200K/sec doesn't bother me at this moment in time!!!

I will trawl my way back through this rather *small* thread and see what other Terajet customers are experiencing......

Paul.

How is your TJ210 connected? I assume you are using ethernet and not USB, also no wireless in there at all? If you have "11Mbit" wireless, it will almost certainly be causing you to see 5.5Mbit... If not, no idea... I am seeing exactly 8Mbit down on mine and 512k up......

Re: *ALL* ntl 10MB Discussion (Part 3)

Reading this thread, my opinion of NTL has sunk as low as that many other people on here have of them. First, they can't come up with a consistent line over whether or not the Samsungs can handle 10MB. Now they've decided they can't, they seem unable to come up with a consistent line over whether a SACM for 3MB Samsung customers is free or £50. I just hope they come to their senses, as they did with the 3MB upgrade, and get rid of the fee FOR ALL.

Rant over (for now), and ResponseTek completed. (Oh, and I'm not blaming CSRs, I guess it is just that the company is incapable of briefing its own staff)

Re: *ALL* ntl 10MB Discussion (Part 3)

*******************RANT*******************

OK, had enough of reading the pure whining......

Lets see, we've received a service upgrade, from 3Mbit to 10Mbit.....

Some of us are seeing 8Mbit because thats all our cable modems can handle.... Some a little less.

I know my cable modem was free, and if I was to move to ADSL (as some people seem to claim they will, now that even at 5.5Mbit their service exceeds that which ADSL can provide in most of the country) I would have to buy my own router. For a decent router, you are probably talking around the £60-£80 mark... so why complain at £50 to upgrade your cable modem???

Some people claim they aren't getting what they are paying for.... OK - You subscribed to this service as a 3Mbit service, maybe a 2Mbit or even 1Mbit service.....

The fact that its now 34.99Mbit - for in my case 8Mbit, and 512k up instead of the £50 I was originally paying for 1Mbit down and 300k up - is great in my opinion.....

I just guess that some people out there are never happy. Good luck with your 2Mbit ADSL, or is that 1Mbit or 512k because you are too far from your exchange..... So long, oh and enjoy the fact that although it looks it, the grass really isn't that much greener over there!

*******************RANT OVER*******************

I'd just like to say thanks NTL for the price reduction and service upgrade.

Have you tried ethernet, and dropping wireless out of the equation???

How are you testing your throughput? I have found that the most consistent result was using DUmeter, and then grabbing a Quake4 demo from jolt.co.uk's download section.... Their UK ONLY server seems to have loads of bandwidth.... Have used it for testing 155Mbit+ links at work!

Re: *ALL* ntl 10MB Discussion (Part 3)

OK, further to my previous message I've gone to http://192.168.100.1/
and get the following readings:

Downstream Receive Power Level : -9.91 dBmv
Downstream SNR : 31.00 dB
Upstream Transmit Power Level : 55.00 dBmv

According to my reading of one of the stickies on this forum, these numbers are outside of the acceptable range.

Can someone confirm that and give me an NTL phone number of someone who can help (for some reason I can't access the NTL web page showing the support phone numbers).

If it makes a difference, I'm in Glasgow.

If that was aimed at me, I'm not 'whining' about a free upgrade, whether to 5MB, which, according to the web site, is all I'll get, or 8MB. or 10MB. My complaint is the total lack of any consistency. Why are some people being given free replacement modems, (or, in the case of STB users, additional modems), while others are being told they'll have to pay £50? Why were some people being told that Samsungs would definately support 10MB (someone early this thread was told 'up to 30MB), while others were being told they would only support 7-8MN, and now we are tols they will support a MAXIMUM of 5MB?

Only way to be sure.....

I'd just disconnect the wireless for 5 minutes, connect with ethernet cable and give it a go..... My TJ210 is definately giving 8Mbit.

Perhaps wait a day or so too, I am guessing a lot of people are exercising their new connections and there may be a little contention out there!!!

Which wireless router are you using?

If its any help these are mine:-

Downstream Receive Power Level : 7.57 dBmv
Downstream SNR : 34.57 dB
Upstream Transmit Power Level : 49.00 dBmv

I dont know what an acceptable range should be but strangely i'm having trouble with nls site also

Wasn't aimed at you.... I hadn't even seen your post before I posted mine....

As for inconsistency in information, no excuse.....

I was just commenting it would be nice for people to say thanks for the upgrade and price cut for once rather than raaar im not getting my service - lol

I guess at the end of the day the poor sods in CS are getting an ear bashing left right and centre. There are a lot of people there who aren't going to be technically literate, and they must hate big launches like this.....
