Re: Coming Soon to Virgin TV (2013) Vol. 2.

I won't mind paying £5.00 for a pacakge including BT THREE channel. BUT, l cannot see VM going for that.

The biggest problem with VM is that again, they will want BT on the cheap. EVEN though we will end up payiong for it.

I agree James , but I would imagine all platforms will be forced to review their packages on the back of this news. ESPN free in XL has represented excellent value for VM subscribers should that change it will be harder sell however its still possible VM could negotiate a decent deal and rejig their collections to reflect this.

Re: Coming Soon to Virgin TV (2013) Vol. 2.

What's noticeable is that people are preparing to switch to Sky to get BT Sports. Not many seem to be considering switching to BT!

What's becoming clearer, in my opinion, is that BT don't have a product that will drive subscriptions to their platform in the way that Sky do. Who knows, perhaps BT will need to spend a year or two getting people to see the value in their Sport offering, and the only way they'll do that is by getting as many people as possible to see it. We'll see, but having spent so much on so little, BT must be preparing to play the long game.

Good points.

I remember when Boxnation introduced the £10.00 registration fee for SKY customers prior to Haye Vs. Chisora. I got into a very interesting conversation with someone in Boxnations customer service team. I asked if the £10.00 registration fee would also be applicable to Virgin customers. The person at Boxnation told me Virgin can charge what they want for the channel, or put the channel into any package they want, as long as they cover the agreed cost per customer. Boxnations customer service rep further confirmed they had no say on how Virgin offer the channel on their platform.

I don't think you can even get SKY Sports News on BT. That alone for some sports fans would be a major loss if they moved from Virgin or SKY to BT.

There is also the added complication of Liberty and what their view will be.

This is because of the Sports all the way through 1-4 are available as opposed to just 1 & 2, and in HD.

Re: Coming Soon to Virgin TV (2013) Vol. 2.

Just a quick tip, Sky have recently changed how to get Sports/Movies in HD on their platform. You now have to subscribe to their top package (£31 I believe), plus another £5.25 and your SS Subscription. Which would make it around £55. If you aren't interested in the TV channels this is a pretty crap deal.

Sky World HD is £65.75/month

Sky World HD, with Unlimited Phone and Unlimited Broadband and multiroom is £95.50 for 6 months, £103 thereafter.

When compared with current Virgin package:
TV XL, Sports, Movies, Phone XL, BB XXL, ESPN = £114.55

Basically, that means Sky works out £182.10 cheaper over 12 months.

EDIT: Just looked up BT infinity BB & phone prices. Can get Unlimited Phone and BB for £38.45 which makes it £104.20 when added to Sky World but it's free for 6 months so is £88.20 for 6 months with Sky World, then £104.20. Which is a saving of £220.20 over 12 months. So even bigger saving.

In fact, for £38.45 you can get Unlimited Phone and BB with BT, plus a youview box which solves the problem of the 3rd tuner, as you can record as a 3rd tuner with the you view box.

Technically their opinion at this point of time is irrelevant as they do not own VM yet. It is illegal for them to get involved in any discussions regarding deals, but who knows what goes on behind the scenes though...

I worked Sky out to be World HD, Unlimited Calls and Fibre Unlimited (40Mbit) to be £105.25 monthly. Including line rental it would be £119.75 a month so don't know where you get your prices from lol. Customer deals don't count either!! VM VIP is better value (120Mbit vs 40Mbit) for £5.96 cheaper a month.!!!!This is all from their website

You also quoted vm's price including line rental and sky's price not including line rental!! sneaky bugger i seen what you did there!! trying to make vm look a lot more expensive.

Yes but I was trying to point out, if you don't watch TV (just the basic terrestrial channels), and Sport in HD, it now works out cheaper than Sky with virgin cause with Virgin you don't have to have the XL Pack, you can be on M+, unlike Sky where to get them in HD you now must sign to their equivalent to the XL Pack (EE+), then another £5.25 HD, then your SS sub. Yes it's cheaper if you want all the channels, but not if you only watch the basics.

Yes you are right, it is illegal but the deals due to close in 4 weeks which is probably before they agree terms with BT. Thats what i meant by an added complication.

Can't you subscribe to Sky Sports on Sky and then pay £5 to have them in HD? I thought they'd effectively split their HD charge between normal and premium TV.
