so finally it looks like the baguley people are getting what they want!!!

I'm on Baguley. No upgrade here yet.

Unhappy Re: Virgin 4Mb to upgrade to 10Mb February - Summer

Hi,

Completely new...first post.

I live near the city centre in glasgow, I got the free 4mb to 10mb upgrade a few weeks ago.

My main reason for having a broadband connection is online gaming and since the speed upgrade my latency/ping has been garbage making it very difficult to actually play, connection seems to be up/down constantly when playing online games.

It can happily download anything between 500-950kbps and doesnt seem to flux when downloading, just when I'm playing games online.

Seen as I dont have vasts amounts of cash to have a monster gaming pc my altnernative is xbox360; LIVE....Before the upgrade my connection supported good enough gameplay but now its...well like i said garbage.

Any idea's or suggestions ? All appreciated...

Re: Virgin 4Mb to upgrade to 10Mb February - Summer

if your not getting any issues on ur pc and only on the 360, it could be xbox live itself, but i dont own a 360 so i have no idea about the various settings it has for networking.

anybody?

Re: Virgin 4Mb to upgrade to 10Mb February - Summer

Thanks for replying...

I know what you mean, LIVE itself does suffer from issues but my brother lives in the next street, he's on Tiscali and has no issues whatsoever....When I use his xbox at his place the connection is so fast its scary, and when he comes over to mine, he moans all night that my connection is crap.

As said downloading seems ok...I'm thinking its got something to do with the speed upgrade its like the connection has gained speed but somehow lost quality ???

What area of Stockport are you in? Because our modem (we're SK5) just rebooted itself and it's still on 4mb... not that I'm upset about it, it's beginning to feel like we'll be the last part of town to be upgraded anyway (was last time....)

I am SK8 area of stocport

Re: Virgin 4Mb to upgrade to 10Mb February - Summer

Am in Baguley area and can definitely see a change in speed but not what I was expecting. Using multiple NNTP streams my 4Meg connection always maxxed out as 480k/s but now with supposedly a 10Meg connection it's maxxing out at 700K/s and speedtests report between 5.5 and 6 Meg downstream speed. So, not sure what that's all about. Last time when I went from 2Meg to 4Meg I noticed very little difference in downstream speed originally but it turned out that was due to Zone Alarm (since removed) throttling the speed for some reason.

Baguley is TBC so I think any speed improvements you have seen are just wishful thinking see link.

No, I download using NNTP virtually every day and its always 480k/s. Yesterday and today it's 700K/s and my modem config shows 10Meg.

All I am pointing out is what the link says.

Post the modem information from your config pages of your modem the same as nadeem

Open a browser and in the address bar put> 192.168.100.1 password and username are both root if required.

DO NOT POST YOUR MAC ADDRESS OR SERIAL NUMBER

I checked the modem information the second I saw the increased downstream rate. It's set for 10 Meg, I don't need to post it.
