Re: New Speeds - June 1st
Just done a speed test here and it's still 2meg (manchester baguely server) Of course, after my post a few pages back I realised something. I had switched down from 10 meg because I haven't been getting great speeds. Primarily, I think, because of the student population. But a lot of them are vanishing for the summer - I could have stayed on 10meg for a few months and maybe enjoyed super speeds for a while. What an idiot!!

Then to top it off - you get people like chrisjones who seem to think it's ok to laugh at other peoples problems. Broadband is a real luxury for me, and I don't like throwing money away. Maybe for people like him it's throwaway cash, but for me it isn't.

I know it`s a bit late mate, but i apologise to you to. I wasn`t having a dig.

It's forgotten mate honestly. I don't hold grudges. This is the net, and I think we all know what it's like to type something out, hit reply, and then think maybe it wasn't the best idea you ever had

Re: New Speeds - June 1st
Rebooted STB in sunny Poole and got a mixed result
Tue, 13 Jun 2006 21:54:00 GMT
1st 512K took 2172 ms = 235.7 KB/sec, approx 1942 Kbps, 1.9 Mbps
2nd 512K took 1656 ms = 309.2 KB/sec, approx 2548 Kbps, 2.49 Mbps
3rd 512K took 2265 ms = 226 KB/sec, approx 1862 Kbps, 1.82 Mbps
4th 512K took 1312 ms = 390.2 KB/sec, approx 3215 Kbps, 3.14 Mbps
Overall Average Speed = approx 2392 Kbps, 2.34 Mbps
This is through wireless router.
Seems to be a step in the right direction

Dave I am in Rock Ferry area using a Samsung set top box. have you tried rebooting it? thats all I did and now i am flying does not seem to be full 4mb but close enough. getting 430kb/s off news groups ( just for testing of course ) there seem to be some peeps in here using standalone modems who have not been sent the upgrade thingy but now you know it is around here, it must only be a matter of days b4 you get it too.

Re: New Speeds - June 1st
The upgrades will be done by uBR / card and not necessarily by each big 'area' so it's quite possible that while someone in a town is on the 4Mbit someone on the other side of town is not

Hopefully Portsmouth will be upgraded on the 15th...

No they don't, as stated several times in this thread already that is business as usual work and any overlap between the two is purely coincidental. Some people in Swindon and Southampton areas are already reporting being uplifted.

I could tell you why that is but then I'd have to kill you, give your modem a reboot...

Network Access : Enabled Maximum Downstream Data Rate : 10240000 bps Maximum Upstream Data Rate : 512000 bps Maximum Number of CPEs : 1 Software Upgrade File Name : ntlhm100_ntl0002.cpr Software Upgrade AdminStatus : allowProvisioningUpgrade Software Upgrade OperStatus : completeFromProvisioning
Guildford upgraded, not sure to what. The modem got a new firmware. The software says ntlhm100 but the modem is ntl250....
And of course is dead slow -dial up speed and below.
So, I am off to call Bombay and pay 10p per minute for the pleasure

Yeah they have kept me on a standalone, as they said it was better then adding it to the cable tv box.
