1. Because ntl lose money if people downgrade and gain it if they upgrade- business sense
2. The 3 meg service has a higher upload than the other tiers- some people require this

40gb? I thought the 3mbit was going to be the same as the 2mbit cap? Is this a new development?
Cheers

At the time of the initial presentation it was said that the 2Mb service would have a 30Gb cap and the 3Mb service a 40Gb cap. Due to the fact that NTL do not as yet have a customer facing usage monitor they are sticking with the 1Gb per day usage figure that has been in the AUP for quite some time. This 1Gb per day is not being enforced at this time but customers who exceed it may be contacted by NTL regarding their usage. Later in the year when customer facing usage monitoring is available the caps will probably be as per the original announcement and strictly enforced but there may be a rethink on the level of them as there was on the 1Mb service. Originally the 1Mb service was to be capped at 5Gb per month but this was later altered to 3Gb, again not strictly enforced but customers who exceed it may be contacted.

Re: *ALL* Speed Upgrade Discussion In Here Please (Part 4)
Would I have to reset the cable modem (unplug via the mains) and switch back on for the 3 meg upgrade to take affect? So far, I'm still currrently getting the 1.5meg download transfer speeds.

If you've upgraded online or over the phone the modem should be rebooted automatically. If it hasn't been, try doing it yourself.

Re: *ALL* Speed Upgrade Discussion In Here Please (Part 4)
Spoke to CS earlier and they have offered to send an engineer with a new box to upgrade me from 750K to 2M.
The thing is, I am very grateful n'all but I am getting a bit worried about the issues reported on this site, nameley:
1. DECT phone incompatability. Can anyone advise if there is a way to get around this? I use a cordless phone every day so I can't do with that not working.
2. Picture. Is it true that the picture is off-centre and that word "bleed" off the edge? Again, I want to avoid suffering worse picture quality.
3. Reliability. I have had issues with the Pace box. Does the Samsung crash less often?
4. Finally, Remote - does anyone have any experience making a One4All remote work with the Samsung? I am currently using a One4All in combination with a DigiSender and something called "Red-Eye." Reading between the lines, I think I will be able to drop the Re-Eye after the upgrade, but wondered if my remote will still work.
Many thanks if anyone can help with these questions.

Re: *ALL* Speed Upgrade Discussion In Here Please (Part 4)
OK, so had my samsung installed this morning. No problems there and the TV and broadband service are back in action. I had to re-reg my router but no problem there.
Called CS and told them to remove the 1mb service and confirm 2mb in place. No problems there either.
However speed test results are inconclusive. I seem to be getting ~192k upstream but only 960k down. I tried a couple of test sites which gave similar results.
To rule out remote end issues I tried a MS SP4 download which also hit a brick wall at 120k per sec, so definitely something odd with my settings.
Can anyone tell me what the CM should report my 2mb service as ? I think it is currently showing mid.cm
Any ideas what's wrong ?

Re: *ALL* Speed Upgrade Discussion In Here Please (Part 4)
Just to toss my experience into the pot .. rang CS today and a very helpful Scottish lady worked some magic and told me all I needed to do was reboot my PC to get my 3Mb service.
I did so .. no broadband whatsover.
The router wasn't getting an IP address from the DHCP server. Call CS back. First guy's PC was unable to get to my account so he transferred, more waiting on hold. Next person can't see any problem, she wonders if the first hit was sent to my old Pace box, so she re-tries hitting my Sammy.
Nothing.
She tried again, still no joy, apparently the STB should have rebooted, it didn't. She then transferred me to 'faults' in the same building (whatever that means) who proceeded to tell me they couldn't help and I had to call 'BB faults' at my expense. I complained since it was NTL's system that had broken by connection, "they'll ring you back" I was told.
Called BB support, "no we don't call back" .. there's a surprise.
After 10 mins or so he told me that CS had screwed up and done two hits, one to upgrade me and another which had removed me.
Bottom line: I had to reprovision and hope that the billing system didn't get triggered by all their screwing about.

You have to re-provision anyway to upgrade to the new speed. Wait for your next bill to come in and if it's wrong post back and someone here might be able to look into it for you if they are at work when you post
