Just for fun..... Try using the ip instead of the domain name.... It has worked for some people before !

Re: Merged-Email AGAIN
My monitors showed SMTP & POP down until 8am and then intermittently down for a couple of hours after that - maybe a lot of poeple swamped it when it came back - or maybe they overran slightly ?
There have been a couple of timeouts since 10am but it seems to have settled down now.

Re: Merged-Email AGAIN
ntl:home Email Service - All packages
ntl:home internet customers on all packages may currently experience difficulties sending and receiving email, with connections to the mail servers being very slow or timing out.
Our engineers are aware and are investigating the cause of this issue.
Please accept our apologies for any inconvenience this may cause.
really??? why do they bother to post these things after its resolved and the problem was purely on their servers on not for the first time its an ongoing problem that needs sorting out

Re: Merged-Email AGAIN
Well I've just got THE email letter about NTL email 'changes' and the offline times of the upgrades.
It's a bit late though.Should have been sent out at least two weeks ago.

You mean this one?
Quote:
Dear Customer,
We are about to upgrade and improve our email system. This is a major project and will take several weeks to complete. When we have finished, we hope that you'll notice an improvement to the performance and reliability of email. In order to let us carry out this important work, we will need to stop the email service for short periods of time. We will do this as few times as possible and only during times of lowest use. Over the next 4 weeks, the email service will not be available on Monday night from 11pm until 7am on Tuesday morning. This will start on Monday 16th February.
During these times, you will be unable to send or receive email from your 'customer@ntlworld.com' account. All incoming email received during this period will be delivered to your mailbox after 7am on Tuesday morning. All outgoing email created during this period will be sent when you next log-on to your ntlworld email service after 7am. To keep you up to date on the progress of these improvements to the mail service please visit www.ntlworld.com. In the meantime, we're sorry for the inconvenience and look forward to supplying you with an improved service once this work is completed.
Yours sincerely,
The ntl Home Internet Team

Re: Merged-Email AGAIN
I never got one either but then half the time it doesn't work anyway so you'd never know what they were doing unless you go to the status page and then its not very up to date

Having said that I have just received the email from NTL home about this email maintenance. So it's going to be no email from Monday nights from 11pm until 7am tuesdays. For a month. Lets hope this works at the end of the month.

Maybe I'm misreading the email, but I think its saying that the initial phase would involve the overnight unavailability (which it did), but that the ongoing work would be for shorter periods and that these would still be kept to off-peak times to reduce the impact on users.
What this sounds like to me is that the major update on the equipment itself happened at the start during the overnight shut down but updating software and "tweaking" the system would take a further 4 weeks to complete.
Anyone in the know able to confirm if this interpretation of the email is correct?

Re: Merged-Email AGAIN
There's something beautifully ironic about sending this message to customers via the system which doesn't work properly yet.

Re: Merged-Email AGAIN
I've had three of those emails - at first I thought they were sent to my three different email addresses but they all were sent to the same one!
