Shoddy for a club of its size that we've only won one cup in 25 years
Also proves its own point that he's only actually sacked one manager since he came back, but all of the rest have left of their own accord...

I think Deadly Doug is careful with the clubs money, he reminds me of Alan Sugar when he was at Spurs, a middle table side who retain their premiership status season after season, and as you say, rarely win anything
At least the club won't do a Leeds and go bust, I know Leeds never went under, but they were trading while being insolvent.
I hope for your sake that the club can turn things around on the pitch this coming season.

Well, bearing in mind that the team were basically crap last season, and we've yet to buy anyone, it looks like we're going to be for another long slog

I dont think he is that careful, 6 million Balaban, 4 million Hadji over 10 million Angel who incidentally was a player they never even saw play in the flesh, he was signed on the evidence of a couple of videos and nobody told Villa he was playing with five of the best attacking footballers Argentina have produced in a generation and that was just in one season. I can see Villa going down unless swift wholesale changes are made.

Point of order, but Angel was 9.5 million , and he did manage to score 20-odd goals a couple of seasons ago.
Having said that, I do agree about Hadji and Balaban (and I'm not going to mention Kachloul )

See? Gazzae knows what I'm talking about (although I was convinced that it was Villa who won in '82 - not sure who Villi are )

He can't get a work permit or whatever, to play in England, so he only plays for United when they play in pre-season friendlies abroad...

I could not believe the paper today apparently we are selling Dean Ashton to Newcastle for 10,000,000 six months after signing him and buying Micah Richards for 9,000,000, now he may be a prospect but 9,000,000 I think they are making this one up

Gerrard wants to be England captain...........
Quote:
Liverpool midfielder Steven Gerrard said on Monday he was keen to take over from David Beckham as England captain.
"Of course I would like to be England captain," Gerrard said at Liverpool's kit launch.
"It is the kind of thing every player dreams about. But I am not the kind of player to talk about it and try and get it that way.
"The decision is down to (England manager) Steve McClaren and if it comes my way then great -- if not, whoever gets the job will have my full support."
|
No, of course you aren't Steve

Re: The official close season non-World Cup football gossip/rumour thread
Along the same lines!
Quote:
Jose Mourinho will not be lending his voice to calls for John Terry to be appointed England skipper.
"I read a few quotes from other managers in the Premiership saying their player would be perfect to be England captain. It is very bad to say this," said the Blues boss.
"Steve McClaren needs help, not pressure. He needs freedom and not people trying to push him for a decision.
"If Rafael Benitez says Steven Gerrard is the best captain and if Sir Alex Ferguson says Gary Neville is the best captain and if Arsene Wenger says Ashley Cole is the best captain, we are not helping Steve McClaren.
"I would say John Terry is the best captain you can have but Steve McClaren needs space.

So Quinn is going to be Chairman and Manager of Sunderland.
The first vote of confidence should be interesting!

Re: The official close season non-World Cup football gossip/rumour thread
i was just looking at his stats again on SSN he will be missed, i was one of the original followers of dutch football when i spotted the talented van nistelrooy, i knew he would go abroad but where i did not know, italy maybe spain..... to my suprise i hear a rumour man utd were hot on his trail.... he was all but ready to sign, sadly a leg break postponed a move by a year, yet they still kept in touch with him through the tragic ordeal and tried their best to show him he was wanted, 150 goals in 200 apperances in a united shirt, 38 champions league goals in there aswell....
i myself will follow ruud wherever he goes, to me he is a world class striker when he was at PSV, and at united, he has still got it in him, its a shame he had all those injuries last season, ferguson didnt help things......
he will settle in fairly quickly in my opinion, he might need some time and get used to the players around him, but overall i dont expect anything on the contrary, if they can keep him injury free.
