"According to rules imposed by regulator Ofcom, if there are mid-contract increases to your monthly line rental, broadband or mobile bill that weren't announced before you joined, you can cancel your contract without paying early termination charges.

This normally only applies to contracts taken out after 23 January 2014. However, Virgin has chosen to allow all customers affected by these changes to leave, regardless of when they joined.

Virgin's formally notifying customers by letter – you've then 30 days from receipt to let Virgin know if you want to leave. From that point there's a 30-day notice period, meaning you'll have to pay for this many days as a minimum. If you've paid for a year's line rental upfront you also won't be able to get a refund."

It's a great deal. I cancelled with Virgin nearly 4 years ago due to a price increase. I've had 50% off, 60% off, 50% off and 50% off with SKY ever since. I had to pay half price for my broadband in the first year but I've had it free ever since.

I keep a note in my calender to call SKY 31 days before my deal is coming to an end to cancel all my services. Each time they've came back with a great deal to keep me. They did leave me sweating once. All my services ended then the next day they offered me 60% off to come back. Took 14 bloody days to get my broadband back up and I ended up with a new phone number. Other than that I can't complain. No idea if they'll offer the same type of deals for SKYQ customers.
Yeah, that will have been due to the service being ceased totally, it would have had to have been processed as a new order. I work for an ISP that does BB and Phone.

Re: More price rises

It's scandalous, had to renegotiate to cover the last prise rise of £3.50......then the loyalty finished £11 discount, rang them again and could only offer me £2 loyalty to sign up for a further 12mths...I told them it wasn't worth the £2, reduced the services to TV M+, 100mb, never use the phone, sent a TIVO back and now it's going up again! how do sky provide broadband do you have to have a phone line?

Re: More price rises

Ofcom rules say you can leave without penalty if you joined after Jan 2014 I think it is. I have been with them for 15 years! Does this mean I will need to pay a cancellation charge still Or does the fact I negotiated a new deal 6 months ago count as when I joined?

edit: Just read earlier post saying you can leave irrespective of when you joined. In that case: bye bye Virgin. I wonder how long I will on the line to cancellations for............ ?

Yes through a non VM phone line. If you don't have one they will install one.

I'll be calling to cancel on behalf of myself, my elderly father in law and my ill brother in law. 3 different customers all cancelling. I wonder if they will let me do it in one call?

Re: More price rises

No email or letter yet looking in previous posts im doubtful of any offers.

Im not a footie fan and took bt sports cost on the chin byt this third increase is certainly going to make us get rid of one tivo box and downgrade phone.

Depending on savings will depend if we are still customers the wife still wants landline but i can live without it cheaper to get a old mobile with a £8 only sim in it.

---------- Post added at 10:00 ---------- Previous post was at 09:52 ----------

Which is cheaper the MSE deal that ends 1st September or the 50% off deal ?

Re: More price rises

I'm coming upto 9 months into an 18month contract been on a deal that ends in OCT told them the £80 a month was too much and wanted to drop services but instead suggested to wife that she add sky movies and move to 200mb ontop of XL tv with weekend calls and that would be £56 a month..had a price increase of £3.50 since then so bill is more like £63 with a couple of extras.

They told wife not to worry about the £97 it will go upto after the discount because they always have offers on so it will never be that.

Looking at this thread if they don't give me offers again do I have a right to cancel services without charges when the price increase comes in? even though I'm in an 18mth contract?

When you receive notification you can accept the price rise and continue in your contract, or phone up to renegotiate/cancel as the price rise gives you an opportunity to cancel the contract without penalty. If you do not negotiate/cancel 30 days from notification, I understand you are deemed to have accepted it and then continue to be tied in for the duration of the original contract.

I only negotiated my current deal around 5 months ago (after the last price rise), so am awaiting the notification before contacting them again. As the last time involved dropping various services and a V+, I am not as worried about negotiating this time as I am quite prepared to go to Sky. The only potential issue is wanting to keep Virgin broadband (though wel served for Fibre now, so maybe not as much as a leap?) - knowing my luck they will want as much for line and BB as I am currently paying for TV, broadband and phone!

Re: More price rises

I have only the M tv in the bedroom as I have Freesat in the living room, I kept it in case the freesat dish failed at some point, but still have landline and broadband, I pay landline for the full year which helps, But V M is getting too greedy,

So have I, but Chad has explained earlier that you cannot get this refunded. They don't tell you this

This might put a spanner in the works for me to cancel, if so I'll just drop down to TV M.

Re: More price rises

Do outbound retentions normally ring after you've cancelled? It's been a few days and wondered if I can expect a call possibly to get me to stay or will they just let it cancel?

Re: More price rises

I am waiting for my letter, going to get bt Unlimited Infinity 1 , there doing a half price offer at the moment , £10 + £18.99 line rental I will then be able add bt sport for £5 to the sky Box Sets Bundle includes all the HD channels for £19 as 50% off Sky TV for 12 months for Virgin Media customers when joining online so that's a total of £53 that will save me about £17 a month. unless when I canceller virgin they come up with a good offer.
