Hasn't the Sky+HD box got remote record on android , blackberry , iPhone/iPod, an iPad sky+ app which I believe on the next update will be able to series link , double as a remote and view your recordings on your planner so it's not the dinosaur you think.

Youview, have loads of online video sources coming on board (a lot of them announced this week with more to come) and Sky+, as it stands, doesn't have the functionality to access those.

Sky will not get left behind, they have the content that VM does not. Until VM start adding content there is no way Sky will be left behind.
TiVo will be a good piece of kit once all the niggles are sorted out, but it is only a box that delivers content.

I know, Sky have been announced as a content partner of YouView.

Virgin have nothing whatsoever to do with YouView.

I accept VM already have network catch up, indeed that is the only reason I retain a VM TV service but things may well change with the content Sky provides, no one really knows.

But to suggest Sky will struggle to compete on the content front with YouView is ludicrous, YouView need Sky not the other way around. I am sure they will relish the battle.

Re: Will you take TIVO one the email that you got today?

I voted no reluctantly

We would like Tivo and been waiting in anticipation...but this is too much money.

I hoped long term customers who preregistered would get a good deal to adopt early...but £200 isn't a good deal.

If we'd have got a good deal we would have told others we know who are thinking about joining Virgin for the Tivo box. As it is we have told them it is wayyyyy tooooo expensive and avoid it like the plague

Well we will bide our time until Virgin bring the price down to a realistic level...especially knowing they are going to swap everyone over anyway!

That's why I said "You make good points for the present situation,". Sky is content king the way people watch TV now.

But the way content is being delivered is changing. People are watching content via online sources, and in that respect, Tivo is way ahead of the opposition, including Sky. Now, how long it will take for that to become more popular is hard to say. Apparantly the growth in TV sales is not in 3D sets, but in 'connected' TVs.

I suspect Sky will have another box in development, but when you look at future content delivery, ATM, Sky are behind.

Let's see if your saying this when the majority are on TIVO and your all streaming content at 7pm at night , I'll stick to it being delivered through my satellite system.

For me, as well as the £40 install there is the fact the you need XL TV. I'm happy with TV L so paying an extra ~£12 for XL + £3 for TiVO + £190 is probably ruling me out.

Excellent point and one that is rarely mentioned.

The insistence on XL is a barrier to many, I roughly calculated its around £140 a year more for someone on L to upgrade to XL and well over £200 a year more for someone on M+.

I have read it will be opened up top other tiers eventually and it needs to be, the last thing VM should be doing is being even more restrictive on pricing.

I'm convinced it's the online capabilities that will sell Tivo not the UI so tier of service shouldn't matter. They should look at this sooner rather than later.

That's why it's good to have a high capacity fibre optic connection, not those ancient telephone wires

Connected content will be on top of the normal TV watching, but Youview will have it and Virgin will have it, so sky will need to get it at some stage. I'm sure they will, but those telephone wire broadband speeds (that have to be shared with the rest of the households streaming needs), won't be on their side (compared to Tivo's dedicated 10meg that can be upped to 20meg) download speed.

It has already been stated that TiVo will be available on TV M+ and TV L (not TV M) but with a TiVo monthly charge of £8.

It is not unreasonable to let TV XL customers be the first to get access to TiVo. When TV XL customers' takeup of TiVo starts reducing, I'm sure it will be opened up to the lower tiers.

Sky have already got it my friend, it's called Anytime+.

And I hate to point this out but YouView will be predominantly relying on those telephone lines you refer to!

It still bottlenecks when everybody's trying to access it what with TIVO being used , 50 meg , 100 meg , 200 meg should make peak time interesting , you may have a house streaming lovefilm on TIVO , multiple computers on, should make an interesting peak time traffic jam.

No - £200 is just too much to fork out. I'm sure if they introduced a system to pay the cost over say 6 months or so people would go for it - I know I would.

Looks like the clunky old SA will be here for a while yet, sadly.

I didn't know that, very wise move so long as it's done in a timely fashion.
