That was nonsense. I think every time Alex Curran was spotted afterwards, she had her ring on.
The latest rumours are that he had lost the dressing room and that senior players would leave if he stayed. Judging by some of the reactions of Gerrard and Torres at some of the subs last year, I find this readily believable. So maybe sacking him saved them from leaving.
There isn't a large amount of top-level, Premiership-suitable managers about. Hiddink has signed a new contract with Turkey. Mourinho has gone to Real Madrid. Van Gaal might be one. Hodgson is probably beneath where they are looking at.
McAteer did say it right though. Employing Dalgish as an intrim manager is a backward step. They need a long-term manager with the vision and support behind him.

Welll that doesn't really prove anything.
The above story is common knowledge in Liverpool. No Smoke and all that

Hopefully Dalglish will finish what the fat spanish waiter started.

Re: Close Season Football Thread
shame about benitez he is a really good manager that just was unlucky as the 2 main players for liverpool have been injured quite a lot and owners that are skint and didn't have any motivation to do anything other then trying to sell the club

Depends on if he wants to spend the next 4 years sat on his backside not working for another club really....

I think employing him is a stroke of genius, the new owners will want there own man in so why offer a massive contract to a big name only to have to sack him in a year or so when the club is sold.

Or, sensationally, Liverpool want to poach David Moyes from bitter rivals Everton.

Re: Close Season Football Thread
The best one is about Redknapp going to Liverpool.
Yes, Redknapp is willing to move from the home he loves, to a team that finished outside the top 4, with a poorer squad, no money to spend and instead of a chairman he gets respects, to have to deal with 2 bickering idiots who are trying to flog the club.
I can see him jumping at that prospect.

Re: Close Season Football Thread
Its long been known that Michael Dawson is one of the nicest footballers in the game, but there's a lovely write up here about him:

Definitely deserves more recognition and hope he gets his chance for England. He's earnt it.

It gets worse.....

Manchester United's owners are £1.1bn in debt - £400m more than previously known - after borrowing extensively against their shopping mall business.
BBC Panorama has found evidence that the Glazer family's debt levels may threaten their hold on the club.

0944: Manchester City are mooting a potential swap deal with Barcelona which would take Eastlands outcast Robinho to the Nou Camp, with Sweden international striker Zlatan Ibrahimovic moving in the opposite direction.

Good deal for City, Ibrahimovich was worth £50 million + Eto last year

Grrrr
Tom Hicks has scuppered at least two 'perfect fit' offers for Liverpool, because of his unreasonable asking price.

Those Gerrard rumours seem to have died down now so maybe they were just internet rubbish.

Re: Close Season Football Thread
Hicks is probably hoping for a good run next season to try and justify his valuation of the club. He seems to be forgetting that there's no champions league revenue next season so it's going to be increasingly difficult for them to cover the debt interest when RBS's deadline for looms.

Chelsea have confirmed that Joe Cole and Michael Ballack are to leave the club on free transfers this summer.

I wouldn't mind seeing Joe Cole at United, and as it would be for free, I would expect Gill or maybe Fergie wouldn't mind either.

Re: Close Season Football Thread
I've just heard on BBC news that FIFA have abandoned their 6+5 rule.
No doubt Man Citeh owner Sheikh Itallabout had a quiet word in Blatter's ear.
