Re: The Suffolk 'Ripper'

If either of these men are innocent, and I believe we are to presume they are innocent until convicted, then they should start compiling their law suit against the papers.

Trial by media really gets on my nerves, and I wouldn't be suprised if it was the police that released his name. They're always quick to tell the world about any celebrities they arrest

Doubtful. I'm sure it was the media who have given both names out.

Re: The Suffolk 'Ripper'

When I went into the garage this morning, I thought I caught sight of one of the daily newspapers with a headline stating one of the arrested men knew Suzy Lamplugh.

I didn't notice which newspaper, and have not seen this reported elsewhere.

Did I see that or imagine it?

I'm sure it was in the Sun.

EDIT: Nope it wasn't even a paper as good as the Sun. It was the mirror.

They are the one's imagining things if they think there is a story behind the he knew Suzy Lamplugh headline, the way I heard it on news 24, they were no more than ship mates on the QE2, still I bet they flogged a few more newspapers than usual on the strength of the coincidence

Re: The Suffolk 'Ripper'

It was in the Sun too and it was the bloke who's now been charged.

I have to say that this case has shown our tabloid papers, but also the 24 hours news TV channels all in a very poor light. There has been a continual witch hunt frenzy dredging for any scrap that could fill a paragraph. Ultimately I see little media sympathy for the victims, just a need for almost vigilante action against a perpertrator. The problem here is it may well be that the first person arrested, could well be innocent yet in the eyes of the public he's now guilty by association.

The law is going to have to be changed to protect people against early outing. Maybe no naming and shaming until at least the person is charged.

Re: The Suffolk 'Ripper'

but why when they are charged? unless you think that all charges lead to trials and all trials are only for the guilty?

Agreed.

The trial by media has been ridiculous, at every point.

See the front page of the Sun with that photo of the 2nd man arrested?

Another bit from the Sun, on the 1st man, they had a bit about how one of his "friends" said he nicknamed himself "Bishop", after an X-Men character. It then said how, in X-Men, Bishop was a sad loner who murdered the woman he fell in love with.

Re: The Suffolk 'Ripper'

Trial by media? I thought it was the police, maybe after showing they are doing something, who named the first suspect.
Until the full facts are known, names should not be released.

In today's Mirror, there is a complete description of a £40 sex session with Tom Stevens, the prostitute "protector". How low can a newspaper go?

Exclusive here
