Re: [Merged] E-Mail dead again
I sent 4 test mails to myself this morning, 3 turned up and one hasn't yet.
Looks like MX6 is just as crap
NTL email is the worst I've ever used, and I've used BT's !

Re: [Merged] E-Mail dead again
I reported earlier in this thread that I had contacted the chief executive of ntl, Simon Duffy, Bill Goodland, ntl director of internet and Aizad Hussain, Managing director of the ntl home division. I had not received a reply up until lastnight when I re-submitted my email to all three of them, because yet again the mail servers were down. An hour later I received a reply from the chief executive, Simon Duffy.
Quote:
Mick
I understand your frustration and apologise for the problems. The story is long and complicated, though I know that's not much comfort to you and others who are experiencing the difficulties.
I am currently in the USA on business, but I will ensure that you receive a response next week explaining the root causes of the problem as well as what we are doing about it.
To give you a quick overview now, the problem is a hardware one. We recently upgraded to the latest Openwave email platform at a cost of several million pounds. Openwave is the number one email platform worldwide, so there should be no problem with it. However, the (new) hardware on which it is running is not working properly. We are working with the hardware provider, who is one of the leading server providers worldwide, to fix it. I'll ensure you get more detail next week.
Apologies once again.
Rgds,
Simon Duffy.

I explained in my mail to them that its time for some answers and real action and I also said that any answers they give will be shared with the cable forum community.
I am not sticking up for ntl here but I think as a company I would be pretty cheesed off having spent millions on an upgrade only to watch it fail constantly. Still, like Simon says - its not much comfort to us who have had these email problems for a good while now. (Over 12 months) However, the response from Simon is appreciated. More openness is needed like this.

So, instead of letting their customers know that there is a reason for the email problems, they again, treat us with contempt & keep us in the dark.
Why isn't there anything on the service status page about this?
I wonder what he means by "recently upgraded". Are we talking days, months, weeks?

Mick - this is interesting, and I'd echo what you say about the guy having the decency to give you a proper reply. Those of us who slag ntl off for its failings should give them credit when they do something like this. The one thing about his response that I find a bit - well, surprising - is that this problem with the new hardware should have coincided with a massive increase in spam (from the wanadoo porn dialer spammers) hitting ntlworld accounts. (As discussed elsewhere.) If you have further contact with him, maybe you could try and find out if the two things are in fact unconnected, or if the increased traffic is contributing to hardware failure?

This is something I have addressed in my reply to Simon. The level of openness specifically.

Re: [Merged] E-Mail dead again
Should I be worried that I can get mail to and from My Primary account but all the secondary accounts seem to get a message back saying...
This is an automatically generated Delivery Status Notification.
Delivery to the following recipients failed.
<address>@ntworld.com
Is this a normal symptom of a failed hardware upgrade?

I cant help you with your question but..
The mail servers seem top notch now, it checks all 7 accounts on OE in an instant/2 or 3 seconds

Re: [Merged] E-Mail dead again
Humms:
My mail has been 'almost' running today. Some sent/received 'instant' and some lost into the ether, maybe to show up sometime in the future.
No help to you, I know. Just stating the state of play here.

Re: [Merged] E-Mail dead again
My email was working briefly first thing this morning (first time in over a week). I got to delete most of my Spam, plus the 2 'over your limit' messages from NTL admin [what do you expect if email is down for 9 days]. Then it went down again (about 9.30) and has been unavailable ever since. I've got a forwarding thingy set up so can receive OK, but can't send or clear out messages.
