Re: Football Talk 2006/2007 Season

The London derby was a superb game to watch. I thoroughly enjoyed it, despite being dissapointed we've slipped further behind Utd. Essiens goal - goal of the season??

As a Chelsea fan, I am concerned this season. There is not a lot to compare between Utd and Chelsea in all honesty. But Utd seem to be more consistent this year and some of their key players have hit early form, wheras Chelsea have a few players out with injury (Cech and Cole most notably) and a few who just aren't performing.

We have a chance on Wednesday to close the gap to 5 points, which I think we'll do quite comfortably against Newcastle.

Its Utd's goal difference that worries me most...

true Ronaldo is a true master.. although Drogba was trying to give him a good run for his money on Sunday

read some comments from Pearce saying he has condemned Corradi for it but that is just some sound bite for the press it won't cut it out of the game

No denying Drogba can go down like a sack of spuds, but c'mon! What about the pussy between the posts for Arsenal, who doesn't like getting his hair messy!?

Dun'no mate, I think I read in the People yesterday that Corradi is now homesick and want's to return to Italy, might have something to do with the rollicking Psycho gave him

Are you a City fan by any chance? I'm only asking because you seem to be extremely bitter.

By saying the core of your team is over the hill i take it you mean Van der Sar, Neville, Giggs and Scholes as these are the first team players over 30.

Van der Sar has conceded the fewest goals in the premiership so far and is first choice Dutch goalkeeper and captain. Neville is part of the strongest defence in the premiership, club captain and first choice England right back. Giggs is playing the best football of his career and is captain of Wales. Scholes is being constantly begged by England to come out of retirement and is being named as one of the players of the season by most pundits.

I fail to see how they are 'over the hill' as it seems that they are playing some of the best football of their careers and still performing at the top level. You have to face the facts United are top by eight points (probably five come Wednesday) have conceded fewest goals and have scored the most. I seriously doubt its luck 17 games into the season.

I am not a City fan, I am not from Manchester , neither am I bitter, in fact I would take great pleasure if you won it, in fact if anyone won it other than Chelsea, nor did I mention luck, I did say that over half of your 'good players' are long past 30 and their replacements are not of a standard to fill in.

Although I have to admit I am reassessing the word's 'past it' perhaps veteran would be better as, Van der Sar, he is a goalkeeper as long as alzheimer's doesn't set and he can keep his concentration he should be all right, Giggs by his managers own admission only turns up for one game in three so those six hundred odd games are in fact only two hundred so he'll be fine, Scholes well seeing as he has had the best part of two seasons off he should be fine to and Gary Neville should have plenty left in the tank considering he spent the first five or six years of his career stuffed up David Beckhams backside. So in fact the only thing that makes these players veterans and past it is their birth certificates.

TheDaddy is getting pre-match nerves before next weekends, West Ham v Man U game, me thinks.

I do hope our "pensioners" can cope with West Hams youth.

Just because i personally am not from Manchester does not mean i cannot support Manchester United. I actually go to the majority of home matches and have been for the past six seasons so don't start that 'not from Manchester' rubbish.

I don't think you can properly rate the younger players coming through like Richardson and Rossi until they get a proper run in the first team. When the likes of Beckham, Neville, Butt and Scholes came through the youth team they were being written off straight away. The qutoe 'You never win anything with kids' comes to mind It's difficult for any player with a bit part in a team to show how good they actually are.

The trouble with that is Rossi and Richardson didn't actually come through from your youth team did they

Maybe, I remember the Kenny Brown one, last match of the season IIRC, I sold my ticket in the pub before the match for £80 or something similar because I thought we'd get thumped, I was gutted

Does that actually matter? They are still young players.

Also the United reserves have won the reserve league north the past two seasons and unlike some teams they play players who have come through the youth team, so they do infact have some talented young players coming through the system.

Depends who they get stolen from really, not that Richardson's been missed, Etherington's better imo

Not the last game of the season though, we played Liverpool and Tottenham after that. And West Ham played Coventry and Nott'm Forest, before finishing bottom that season.
