Anybody know what this means, taken from one of the new guides

Will we be able to stream to pc, it's one of the things on my wish list but was thinking it might not be allowed due to rights interests. Could be that the streaming is to the tivo rather than the other way round.

Re: TiVo

It is to allow content to be copied or streamed from the TiVo to other devices. But you are correct that some content owners may restrict it.

Cheers. Sounds like really good news depending on how much we are able to stream.

Which guide mate? Looks good, I thought that they might not have included support for the TiVo Desktop software but it looks like they have!

Re: TiVo

It's here. I can't find any info on backing up recordings so hoping you can do it that way. They seem to be more restrictive in the UK on what you can copy than the US though. Even if it were encrypted so you could stream it back to the tivo it would be useful as a back up.

---------- Post added at 22:47 ---------- Previous post was at 22:37 ----------

An additional piece of informtion. The remote code list shows Denon and Yamaha on it so presumably we will now be able to use the remote to control av amplifier volume.

Re: TiVo

Cheers, TiVo Desktop Plus is the piece of software used in other countries to get content off a TiVo.

While VM have not outright ruled out TiVo Desktop, due to the UK having more stringent content license laws than the US, being able to back up recordings may not be fully possible, so with that in mind it's not something they are looking at as a priority.

Re: TiVo

From the Complete Guide:

Video Output Format
Your box receives signals in any of five possible formats – 1080i, 1080p, 720p,
576i and 576p.

I think "receives" is not technically correct here. The box can output in five different flavours, but I understood all VM cable TV transmission to be in 1080i with the box scaling to the required output flavour. Have I got this right?

That's exactly what I was wondering because it mentions a feature called 'extend live recordings' but it would appear you have to tell it to extend the recording yourself even though it asks you. Isn't that just a fancy name for padding and why wouldn't it just do it anyway?

It surely must have a dynamic EPG?

Edit -It would appear that it dosen't have a dynamic EPG if the DS post is right.

I am genuinely gobsmacked if it's true.

Re: TiVo

Had my BB upgraded to 50mb at the weekend. Was chatting to the engineer and he told me he was having his Tivo training this week. He said to call next week and they should be able to advise when it will be availbale in my area.

I'm guessing that ...

So you can stream to laptops, mobile phones etc. in your household (which, like the TV licence, covers a multitude of people and places I'd imagine) but you can't stream it to your web page, post in on YouTube (even if it came from there in the first place!) or start your own WiFi TV channel.

Fair enough!

There’s nothing worse than missing the
nail-biting finale of your favourite show,
or the kick-off of the big match you’ve
recorded. But the beauty of your new
TiVo box is that it’s got that covered.

Overlap Protection™
If you’re recording a few shows back to
back, but on different channels, you’ll want
to make sure that your TiVo box doesn’t
miss the start of one, or the end of another.
The Overlap Protection feature gives you
additional options for dealing with recording
clashes when they occur.

Recording with Overlap Protection™
If Overlap Protection is turned off, when
two shows overlap by a few minutes on
the same tuner, the lower priority recording
is cancelled. With Overlap Protection turned
on, your TiVo box cuts the lower priority
recording by a few minutes (up to 5) to
allow both shows to record.
For repeated recordings, Overlap Protection
uses the Manage My Series Links menu to
learn which shows have higher or lower
priorities. One-off recordings receive the
highest priority, while TiVo Suggestions
always have the lowest.
When you set a new recording, your
TiVo box will let you know of any recording
clashes and give you options to resolve
it, including cutting short the lower
priority show.
To get set up, go to the Home screen,
select Help & Settings, then Settings,
then Recordings, then Overlap Protection.

Extending live recordings
Live events like sport and awards
ceremonies often run over. But you can
use the Extend Live Recordings setting
so that your box will automatically ask you
whether you want to add extra time onto
your recording when these types of shows
are on
Looks to me that the overlap stuff is more about clashing recordings and the extending live is just that extending live recordings. So that doesn't mean there isn't a dynamic EPG.

Judging by posts from Spiderplant and whizzard though this will be restricted due to rights issues. This is more of an issue to me than getting a dynamic epg. Still enough reasons there for me to pay for one though.

There is nothing in the guides to suggest it has though, if it was dynamic why would you need to manually extend live events isn't that what a dynamic EPG is for?

There seems to be someone who is in the know on DS who says it hasn't but if i'm honest I find that hard to believe.
