Make sure you look after him, make him tea/coffee and a biscuit so hes in a nice mood when he installs mine

Two guys turned up here to do the install. They did the first ones in Watford too. They said they were a bit rusty but there wasn't much to do so it could'nt go wrong.
They said Hemel was moved UP the list! Maybe our incessant childish moaning got back to VM and they did this to shut us up!
They were great, we had a chinwag and there is no chance he will be in a bad mood.
Only the two of us to be done in Hemel today so I think 50Mb will have a slow take up.

Re: 50Mb areas
Well Rik glad they sorted yourself and Uni, the tables have turned a bit. I'm presently seething and enjoying my second major (as in over a few hours there have been countless few or 10 minute outages) downtime on 50Mbit in 2 weeks and another in a series of intermittent connectivity since install.
In short I tend to disagree with the 'top notch' thoughts. Even the most incompetent get it right every now and then especially when there's not much to do in a fairly well built network (not done by the present owners obviously). Give them a remotely difficult task like various bits of London to maintain and they appear totally incapable.
Glad I'm not near a chemist, I'd be getting some lubricant and doing an install of my own with the cable modem when the engineer comes.

It's what I get for complaining about One Way Internet - no way Internet.

Re: 50Mb areas
Just out of interest, are the Netgear router and dongle now my property? or would I have to return them if I cancelled my services for instance?

Re: 50Mb areas
By the way. Two points made by the engineers who came to do the install:
1. The 50Mb modem can support lower speed services from VM if you want to downgrade for some reason
2. These modems have been lab tested to 200Mb so when VM decides to offer the service, it will be an electronic change that can be ordered online - like the situation when we moved from 10Mb to 20Mb (or was it 2Mb to 10Mb - it was so long ago).
If we are lucky we will get that higher service for the same price.

Yes - the equipment used in the 200M trial was these modems and the same equipment you are connected to at the moment.
It should be noted though that while the modem is capable of 200M the router VM provided is not.
Do not hold your breath for free upgrades for a long while yet, the router issue slows things down and BT are only doing 40Mbit for the foreseeable future.

Are there any wireless routers out there that can support 200Mb plus?

Re: 50Mb areas
I had the 50MB installed last Friday. So far every speed test I have done on speedtest.net has not gone bellow 50MB!!
Much better than when I was on 20MB and was only getting 3/4MB at peak times.
