We'll see shall we, if they don't improve then i'll can my Cable, Broadband and Phone and take my business elsewhere.

Quick exchange by the engineer who turned up as arranged, but make sure he's logged in your Postcode before he goes.
The speed upgrade should be automatic once it all comes back online, which may take a few hours, so arrange it for a non-critical day!
I had problems with my account seizing up on their mainframe, so it took several days to get me back online. The TV channels came back on the same day after I called CS up.
However, they don't tell you that you need to re-register your PC, so go through the original start up process. You'll need your PID & Password from the original letter.
CS & TS were courteous & helpful, but my problem seemed to confuse them. CS did call back as promised, so overall I'm happy with support. I assume the problems were a one-off, but be prepared.
I haven't done a specific speed test yet, but it's clearly much quicker.

Thanks for that, RUCYJ. At least I have some idea what to expect. The engineer is coming in one of the morning sessions so I'll have the afternoon and upto 8pm to sort out any problems.

Re: *ALL* Speed Upgrade Discussion In Here Please (Part 4)
Hi all,
Just went to ntlworld web page and selected upgrade speed and hey presto I am now on 3mb instead of 1.5mb. Couldnt believe it worked after all I've read about the problems that ppl are getting. Just a thought for ppl who have tried this and it didnt work - if you are using a router then you need to disconnect this and reconnect your cable modem directly to your PC, otherwise the NTL system wont be able to detect your modem's MAC address. Hope this helps

Glad you are upgraded, but what you have said is incorrect- as far as the ntl system/ modem is concerned, a router connected to it is just a device with a mac address- same as a pc/ xbox/ ps2 etc etc.
It is perfectly possible to upgrade with a router connected. Being unable to identify the mac of the modem is most likely caused by a proxy server being specified

Of course the NTL system can detect your Cable Modems MAC address, router or no router.

Re: *ALL* Speed Upgrade Discussion In Here Please (Part 4)
Well when I first tried the upgrade the website couldn't find my cable modem, when I disconnected the router and connected the modem directly the cable modem was found and the upgrade went through Actually thinking about it, the router is after the modem anyway so I dont know why it didnt work first time round Perhaps the upgrade page needs to see the computer too, which it wouldnt do because of the NAT on the router (I think) - hehe.

Re: *ALL* Speed Upgrade Discussion In Here Please (Part 4)
Did you reboot the CM? That would repopulate the database linking CM MAC to PC/router IP and (if the problem was that it had somehow forgotten the previous link) would fix the problem.

Re: *ALL* Speed Upgrade Discussion In Here Please (Part 4)
I did reboot the modem when i disconnected the router, have found in the past that if I leave the CM switched on when doing this it doesnt always work. So now I just switch everything off, switch the connections, switch everything back on again

Re: *ALL* Speed Upgrade Discussion In Here Please (Part 4)
Ok I live in bedfordshire.
Is it possible for me to have just a set top box to do both my internet and TV?
Or do I need to have a cable modem and set top box as I do at the moment?

I'll have to give them a call when I'm off work again and see if I can do that then.
