Debenham and Iceland were involved in this too.
I suppose if the healthcare in the home did not work iceland could have sent a couple of pizzas around to cheer people up.

Not seen the above though as am on ex NTL network.

You used to be able to do shopping from Iceland on the old CWC Digital service.

Did not realise that being on ex NTL for iceland that must of been something of a revelation as even today they do not do web deliveries and you have to go instore to get them to deliver, thanks for the info as i made a jokey reference without realising the above mersey70.

Re: Coming Soon to Virgin TV (2011) Vol. II.

The iSeeTV thing was a bit different in that it let customers see and talk directly with an operator at those particular businesses.

It's funny seeing what remains of those many interactive sites which were available when I first got cable TV. I'm sure we'll see them return and more in better ways on TiVo apps.

I think Iceland did do internet shopping back then too. There were all sorts of services on CWC. Banking, Pizza Delivery, email and even internet through the TV.

But they didn't bank on the fact that most people use the TV for simply watching TV and still do. I know Sky lost a fortune on their version of iTV.

Obviously everyone just uses a PC for all of that stuff now but at the time it was innovative but my word it was SLOW!

I would personally have to disagree, I think the TV will always be mainly for entertainment and the PC for the rest but time will tell.

There was a time when I thought cameras on phones wouldn't take off but I was proven wrong. Now phones are more about apps than about using them to call people.

The older ineractive TV sites on cable were buggy and slow due to the limitations of the software but having had used the Who Wants To Be A Millionaire app on TiVo I can tell you it's delivered well and works great. I'm hoping we get LoveFilm and Shoutcast some day.

I was talking more about things like shopping and banking thru the TV.

Of course apps like Love Film would be great thru the TV as they are entertainment.

There's no reason why they wouldn't take off if they are delivered well. I wouldn't mind checking out the current special offers at Tesco's or checking my latest bank transactions on my TV.

I personally doubt it will happen.

It's far easier using a PC and keyboard than a remote control. I'd personally be surprised if such applications were reprised as when they debuted through the TV broadband internet was in it's infancy, indeed far fewer homes even had a home PC and smartphones were a distant pipe dream.

I just don't see the institutions bothering but that's just my view but i'm sure it could technically work well.

I think we should continue this discussion after those 100s of apps Cindy Rose mentioned have appeared. This time next year?

Mate I couldn't really give a toss whether they do or don't launch I just personally don't think there is much demand from the publc to be fiddling with their remote control to look at their bank account or go shopping, we have been there and done that.

I can think of far more useful apps than that. And for the record Cindy Rose claimed that Tivo will provide '100's of apps within 12 months' as early as 1st December 2010 so they had better get a very, very serious move on!!

This guy is talking about things like banking though which surely isn't what Tivo is about. That's been tried and scrapped long ago.

That's pointless in my opinion, why use the TV as you are obviously at home anyway. Just use the PC.
