l think its been put on the backburner as its not cheap to have a HD variant plus subscribers of the channel have no intention of paying extra for it from what l hear.

Most channels don't have an HD version. Think how many channels there are on a satellite box. 500-ish? And how many are HD?
Current broadcast technology wouldn't allow all channels to be HD on any UK platform.

That's a shame. If they had opened it up to more viewers (via VM) it might have stood a chance.
I guess they won't be broadcasting the football in 3D anymore then too?
