Re: *ALL* Speed Upgrade Discussion In Here Please (Part 4)
I know this question has probably be asked before but there is 60+ pages to trawl through - so please don't shout at me - I have a stand alone cable modem and am in the Welwyn Garden area - is it easy enough to upgrade my speed - I am currently on 1.5 mb

If you use a stand alone cable modem you can upgrade using the following link:
https://autoreg.autoregister.net/cgi..._tiermigration
If you are using a Set top box for your broadband acess you need to call NTL (0800 052 2000) and selection option 5.

Re: *ALL* Speed Upgrade Discussion In Here Please (Part 4)
Bit of a result. Although my STB seemed totally dead yesterday showing 8888 on the display, when I got home last night, it was showing Err1. So I rebooted and it said it was doing a software update. It then sprung back to life. TV and broadband back in action.
I checked the diags screen and at 11.am it received some sort of update, then 11.07 decided it had a loader CRC failure. Reboot at 19:08 CM operational. etc. back in business.
So, just cancelled my engineer visit tomorrow and back to 4th april for the Samsung upgrade. With a bit of luck.

Re: *ALL* Speed Upgrade Discussion In Here Please (Part 4)
Followed the link to upgrade SACM, claims to have upgraded me to 2MB but speed tests only give results indicating 750K. I have rebooted the modem but no change.
A second visit to the upgrade site tells me that my current speed is 2MB!
Anyone else had this? Is there a solution?
Cheers

What speed tests are you using Bonzoe? Have you tried clearing out all cached info just incase you're pulling up an old version of the results page?

Use the instructions here to try and access the modem config file to see what speed it is set at:

Tried again just now after another reboot, and presto 1900K download!!
Seems to be a delay before upgrade is sent to modem.
Thanks

I'm glad you're sorted now
Personally - after I did the upgrade online it went through in about 1 min.

Re: *ALL* Speed Upgrade Discussion In Here Please (Part 4)
I've got a problem with the online speed upgrade page.
It validates the login details fine, and also detects the cm as well, but then it throws the following error at me: "Unable to lookup cable modem xx:xx:xx:xx:xx:xx (RecordNotFound in page checkCM.)" (I've xx'ed the mac address)
Any suggestions? (I'm currently on the 750k cm service in renfrew)

Depends, what you consider important. What's your main criteria for a good ISP? Oh, and there's something about your post just ain't right

This thread is solely for discussion about the new speed upgrades - it isn't for discussing whether ntl is better than BT or vice versa.*
If you want to discuss ntl vs BT etc., you could create a new thread, best place is probably here: http://www.cableforum.co.uk/board/forumdisplay.php?f=63
* Well, OK, unless you're asking who now has the fastest speeds out of ntl & other ISPs, in which case ask away.

Re: *ALL* Speed Upgrade Discussion In Here Please (Part 4)
After reading about the upgrades, it looks like I have one of the old boxes and can't get the 2mb unless we change the box. However, the set top box belongs to my parents, and I'm not sure I'm going to be able to convince them to change the box. I forsee an argument along the lines of "The television is fine, why should we?". Can anyone tell me how much hassle would be involved in changing over to a cable modem? Are NTL likely to try to discourage it, what sort of wiring/cabling might be involved, any costs? I'm wondering if it might be worth just doing that if I can.
