Sorry, I don't agree - they have frequently shown disappointment on the viewing figures on BT.
Just having 1 match each week on FTA allows them to say they are addressing that issue - all about growing the brand - 1 FTA game may possibly attract people to want more and subscribe to BT.

We agree to disagree - but football today has little interest in anything other than money.
BT had a FTA channel offering a free game each week.

Re: ESPN, BT, Euro, Premier and Sky Sports news
Whatever happened to BT's free to air channel? The last I heard about it was when it went Freeview hd only but that was many months ago. Surely if BT had a free to air channel available on ALL platforms and put some Champions league matches and Europa league matches on it that would keep UEFA happy? Mind you that said isn't that what they were originally supposed to do? Done properly though it could work for them.

Re: ESPN, BT, Euro, Premier and Sky Sports news
Maybe UEFA wanted more money for the FTA rights than BT were willing to pay as a subscription channel.
It had the one game a week offering but closed at the end of the 2017-18 season.

You may be correct, however that is of little use to anyone who hasn't got access to BT channels (the majority of households I suspect)

There are still a lot of houses without freeview access, even these days

BT on defensive as Sky prepares to bid for Champions League.

BT Sport’s stranglehold on Champions League football is set to be challenged as Sky prepares to enter the battle for the £1bn-plus TV rights when bids are submitted on Monday.

Rumours have circulated that the competition’s governing body, Uefa, is keen to have such a broadcaster back on board, possibly by restructuring the auction to make it viable for the lesser-resourced free-to-air players. Sky is not thought to be seeking involvement with another bidder in the style of its former tie-up with ITV.

Monday’s Champions League rights auction will be a test of whether the old sparring partners are ready to fight again.

Re: ESPN, BT, Euro, Premier and Sky Sports news
Didn't sky used to show almost the full match of any 3pm kick off about 6pm on sky sports with the red button? Game of the day it was called. Has that gone?

Well we will know soon enough as the story might be a ruse as a clever way to jack up the price MM.

Re: ESPN, BT, Euro, Premier and Sky Sports news
I'm always sceptical about these rumours because no sensible business would tell its rivals what they've got planned. Probably rumour came from a salesman trying to drum up more new subscribers.

I think you are correct, as it has been said that BT are looking to scale back their investment in sport since a change in the management.
Faced with the possibility in BT reducing their bid from last time who wouldn't intimate others are interested in bidding (Sky have previously said they didn't lose subscribers when they lost CL rights) - after all the PL have done exactly that by saying Streamers were going to bid big at the last auction.
