Actually I believe that 192.168.100.1 always works, regardless of modem or router mode.

As from now, Virgin Media won't ask for the SH1 back when you upgrade to the SH2 via Quickstart, but as with other older kit ask you to recycle it.

It's still being installed for like for like fault swaps, and D2 modem faults.

Re: Virgin Media 150Mb Coming 2014

Random question : If using an old router as an access point via a powerline : Does it also need to be connected via ethernet to a PC / Laptop?

Or can it just run from a powerline once setup properly?

Re: Virgin Media 150Mb Coming 2014

No.

It'll run fine from the powerline, since the powerline just provides an ethernet port anyway.

Virgin Media website says:

Quote:
We’ve already started upgrading our network in your area.

We’ll contact you by the end of June 2014 to tell you when your speed upgrade is ready.
I thought they would just upgrade my speed without having to contact me? Last time I got a speed upgrade nobody called me and it just happened.

What is your current speed?

It may be that your current equipment is not capable of the new speed and requires replacement.

Even if you have compatible kit this time around, you have to opt into the upgrade, so that the experience is the same for everyone.

The contact will be an email, and then all you have to do is log into My Virgin Media and follow the instructions - it's not complicated

Mines been delayed too for the fourth time ! These dates are cobblers, they know very well the real dates but are just trying to retain custom with fairy stories. They really are taking current customers for granted, VM have a history of this. Its going to be quicker to quit and rejoin to get the new speeds.

Just call them. Point out that new customers can get the upgrade on your street at a lower cost and ask to be upgraded. You will end up with a new contract, but, to me, it's worth it.

While Dates do seem to have a habit of slipping with VM, I don't think it's fair to say that they actually know the real dates. If they're guilty of anything, it's probably underestimating how long the rollout would take.

Quite a few people, myself included, have got the upgrade early without having a new contract just by asking them. If Virgin really are just shifting dates to keep customers, then why are they also upgrading existing customers early without even requiring a new contract?

As I've said previously, there is sometimes enough capacity available in areas to support inclusive early upgrades, rather than via a package upgrade.

If you do get an inclusive upgrade early, then this isn't a new contract.
