Re: Coming Soon to Virgin TV (2013) Vol. 3.
I've got a 1tb TiVo. I think I'm right in saying that 1tb with Virgin is worth less than with Sky because of the way shows are encoded on cable?
Even so I generally run at about 60% of capacity (excluding suggestions, of course) and the truth is some of it I never find the time to actually watch.
The point I'm making is that I reckon you'd have to be watching an absolute shedload of television for 1tb not to be enough on either platform.

Probably right. I moved from 500gb box..so 2tb seems big (maybe bigger than a shed )
However, if I had a family, I could see the need for 2tb (hands up who hasn't seen kids saving all the rubbish of the day, I have when younger, though it was my rubbish)
And being able to save a series or two, to watch when you get around to it is good.

With recording the live Tour de France in HD plus the cricket and golf highlights in the same format I have hit a record high on my Tivo this week....
47%! :-)

I think it's only £5 per month now for HD on Sky. And then another £5 for Sky Premium HD on top of that

I think it is £5 for entertainment extra (basically shows) and £5.25 for sports

I do have a family - I've just lost the weekly baby looney tunes v. Andrew Marr Show debate, again! - and I still find 1tb enough, this despite the planner basically mirroring the entire weekly schedule of TLC and nickelodeon! I still have space for the decent stuff I want to watch, and that includes a couple of full seasons I haven't got round to yet.
I do think the od selection has fallen behind Sky now, but with over 200 bespoke suggestions currently on my TiVo I rarely go od now anyway.

Agreed, this has to be a fear. Would be really disappointing.

Sorry Andy deleted my original post rather than editing , it will be interesting to see which box the new owners decide to go with moving forward.

I think Muppetman might foresee a time when the Virgin stb and the Sky stb are essentially the same experience, if I've understood him correctly?

Liberty Global has launched its Horizon TV product in the Netherlands, with Switzerland to follow next quarter and Germany and Ireland next year.
The Horizon box, made by Samsung with a user interface provided by NDS, includes 1024MB of RAM, 256MB of Flash memory, six DVB-C tuners and a 500GB hard disk.
The box is based on an Intel PUMA core and includes two WiFi chips – one for LAN connectivity and another provided by Celeno to deliver HD content through the home. The box connects via 802.11-based wireless in 2.4GHz and 5GHz and also includes a MOCA 1.1 capability for in-home coax.
Introducing the product at IBC in Amsterdam, Liberty Global executive vice-president and chief technology officer Balan Nair said that the company was also launching Horizon.tv, a browser-based application that allows users to access content on Horizon on other devices over the web. He also said that Liberty Global would launch a companion box next year for multi-room delivery of the service over WiFi.

The Horizon STB is way more advanced than the current incarnation of Sky+HD I'm pretty sure its a far higher spec too , that said some of the underlying technology is the same. I believe Horizon uses NDS MediaHighway middleware which Sky also use. Its worth mentioning that NDS is now owned by Cisco and the Horizon box has 5 or 6 tuners doesn't it and also uses the Snowflake EPG.
