Re: Coronavirus

Social distancing restrictions need to be in place for "at least most of a year", according to scientists advising the government.

Re: Coronavirus

To support our local restaurant, we're ordering a delivery meal tonight (we're "socially distancing" because 4 days ago we passed through multiple busy airports and travelled on packed airplanes, so if we have caught it, we don't want to infect others whilst we (if we are) in the initial contagious stage).

Tell that to the teenagers out there. Even if you keep your distance from them, they move around so much it becomes irrelevant.

Re: Coronavirus

I can't see people keeping social distancing up for nearly a year. We are by nature social animals.

The government has to lead on this and that means ruling nothing out if the need arises.

Advice has obviously not worked up to now.

What is the problem with staying still for a few minutes?

Re: Coronavirus

Woo, finally, our office has finally decided that people don't need to work there if there is any way that they can work remotely! It seems like a senior HR manager was resistant to this based on a call yesterday where he said that working from home was not showing full commitment. Read the room sir!

Apparently, I am a key worker and could send my kids to school if I wanted. I don't see any need as I work from home anyway but it has been fun to wind them up about it. They have school provided iPads or Chromebooks and they have been assigned work to do so I will be cracking the whip from home :-)

Let's hope to God that you and your good lady are ok. That's a good idea; the Government have relaxed the planning laws to allow bars to do takeaways to help them try and survice.

People have turned to using kitchen towel instead of toilet paper; this blocks up the sewage pipes, so It's best to put it into a bin. Reminds me of going to Turkey!

I shouldn't have quoted your post Hugh, we need to social distance as much as we can

A year isnt exactly a few minutes.

I dont see how it would be practical to follow the current "advice" for a year.

Business would collapse, and how would we afford to bail out the owners, the money has to come from taxes, and they are going to take a large hit if people have no jobs anymore etc to pay tax. People will get fed up, then angry, then the riots will start.

People keep comparing it to the "spirit of the war".
In the war period you still had pubs open, plays, concerts etc, you could still go out.

Re: Coronavirus

Spot on. The future is frightening, even if we get this vile thing under control. They have no alternative but to intervene and borrrow huge amounts of money, if they don't I fear that society will collapse.

Nobody likes borrowing, but if your roof falls off, you have no choice but to use an expensive credit card if that's the only way you can fund repairs.

It's crossed my mind that the Government might even do the unthinkable and legislate to freeze their interest payments or write off some of the debt in the same way that debt councillors do for individuals in dire financial circumstances. Experts say that this crisis is like 9/11 and the banking crisis combined.

Exactly. As others have said, you can't catch the blitz so you could still go out.

Re: Coronavirus

I'm frightend tbh, haven't slept for days and my anxiety levels have never been higher. Staff are worried that they will lose pay and have to feed their families and pay their bills, but we have to do this. I know everyone has different views, which I respect, but i've been praying and begging God to help us. I'm losing money, but I couldn't care less.

My stint on this Earth is nearly done, but I feel so sorry for the next generations, even if we find a vaccine, the world's economies are f****d and I fear Paul is right about riots.

I keep thinking about people who I have fallen out with in life and online and them with me for what are now trivialities in comparison and now realise that these are unimportant.

Whatever and whoever we are, we are going to have to stick together as it's our only hope.
