She has a family. It's understandable to wait a few hours for them to arrive and do their own thing first.

It’s like when President Kennedy was Assassinated in Dallas, in 1963. He mostly likely died instantly that headshot had happened, but he was rushed to hospital and millions of Americans were glued to either radio or their TV sets, this was the era of no internet or social media, they were left dangling for a short period, wondering if their president was going to live. Getting back to our Queen’s passing. Seen a couple of questions asked elsewhere, that why isn’t the Royal Standard flag at half mast, on Buckingham Palace, right now, yet other buildings the Union Jack 🇬🇧, is.

The Royal Standard, always represents the monarch, King Charles III, instantly became King and monarch on his mothers death, so the monarch isn’t dead and is the reason it’s not at half mast. If King Charles, leaves Buckingham Palace, to go to another home, the Union Jack will replace Royal Standard and will then be at half mast.

Countess of Wessex, Sophie, a little earlier on, clearly moved by reading floral tributes outside Balmoral.

Thanks Hugh. So, if any former service personnel decided to do something like form a pressure group to make the UK a republic many years after leaving the forces, they would technically be breaking the allegiance thar they pledged.

I doubt if anything could/would be done about it, but it's an interesting fact nevertheless.

Awww, it seems that she was well loved. I personally never got to meet her, but I know a few who did. Not one of them had anything bad to say about her. In fact, quite the opposite. She was always polite & pleasant, never behaved like she was anyone special and had a marvellous sense of humour.

I used to wonder why she didn't pass on the throne onto Charles and retired. I had wondered if she didn't think that he would make a good King (after some mild criticism about him).

Now, I believe that she knew that the role takes over a person's life and is hard work and didn't want her son to have to experience this for as long as possible.

For someone to carry on working until 96 for the sake of one of her children is a selfless and admiral act.

The speed of broadband has nothing to do with it.
The press clearly knew already, and were obviously asked to wait.
Did it really matter that they gave the family two hours before making it public.

No, because the Pledge only (legally) matters when you’re Serving - once you’ve left, you are no longer subject to Forces discipline.

It is not only a case of giving the family some time but all Commonwealth heads, Ambassadors etc have to be informed so the announcement is syncronised.
