Re: The All New Super Hub 2AC from virgin media, Did we mention its as bad as the 1st
I am very tired of the behaviour of several posters in this thread.
Let me be quite clear here.
I dont care what happens on other forums, only what members do on this forum.
Take your issues with other forums elswhere.
Any more childish reports or posts and I will suspend ALL the members involved.
I dont have the time or patience to start picking out who did what, where, when or why.

I just use a conked out 6-year-old old laptop with a broken screen to run pfsense. Never been above 20% CPU or RAM usage, so that seems a bit overkill.
Could have added a £15 USB gigabit NIC but figured it'd be easier just to run multiple VLANs over the onboard card. No disadvantage at least while internet connections are nowhere near 500Mbps.
I'd be interested in what the peak throughput of the SH2AC is in AC mode. The BT HH5 seems to cap out at about 430Mbps but that's with a 2-stream client card and 210Mbps on a mobile phone.

Top AC Speeds... I might be able to find that out for you. Let me ask the question
As for the USB network on pfsense. Not sure if the driver support would be there.
When i did run PFSense i ran it on a dell server in a VMWare VM so it wasn't as much of a waste.

Thanks.
Indeed if you already have a running machine then of course the added costs are negligible, I just wouldn't be running a full rack server just for pfsense Laptops are, after all, designed around power efficiency hence using 1/10th the idle power of even a fairly efficient previous-gen rack server.

The SH 1 though the wifi was bad (that was down to the rubbish a antennas inside it. Yep I pulled one apart with VMs permission of corse) it worked great wired and even better in modem mode. The Broadcom DOCSIS chip was fine. The rest was not. It also had memory shortage issues to the point firmware was set to delete all logs on successful connection to the CMTS.

As far as I know the NDA now only covers the firmware but I need to check that.

I got given a slap on the wrists for saying I've been installing them to new customers and had no issues, decided to leave the community forum after that

Since you're not a subby then more likely a "tap-on-on-the-shoulder" considering it was common knowledge in Brighton from before 20th July!
That said it demonstrates the ludicrous absurdity of running a forum "Beta" that almost immediately is overlapped by a "pilot" which is itself is totally negated by a release for top tier new customers...!!
Clearly New Products Development were out-manouvered by VM Marketing who had a "set-in-stone" 4Q GA release date!

Or maybe it was QA who was outmaneuvered.

Re: The All New Super Hub 2AC from virgin media, Did we mention its as bad as the 1st
Does anyone know when the know issue with the hub will be fixed (can only get a max of 40mbps download on a wired connection when using a 100mbps NIC). All I get off VM is the usual 'watch this space' and we all know this could mean months/years lol

I wouldnt expect them to fix it tbh. Gigabit nics have been the norm for years and with the way internet conbections are going (100mbits+), patching something to support low speeds sounds backwards. You would be bettee off investing £10 in a gigabit usb adapter.

I hear what your saying GM, but surely they should inform their customers about these limitations before lumbering them with a peice of kit that they can't get the best out of.
In all honesty I'll probably pick myself up a new NIC as some point but it would be nice to get what I'm actually paying for.

I'd be surprised if they didn't fix it. It's still a fault of the equipment, it's still preventing the customer from getting the speeds they should be getting. Okay, so they won't get 152Mbit speeds but what about 100mbit? What if they're paying for that and only able to hit 40mbit? Why should they pay more because Virgin's equipment is faulty? I'd be expecting a rolling credit on my bill until the issue was fixed, personally.

My point exactly, and I have had such a credit applied. The customer service advisor was speechless when I asked for a credit as everyone that had been fobbed off with 'it's a known issue and we're fixing it' had just accepted it.

Perhaps you should tell Dell that their currently marketed laptops aren't meeting "the norm". http://www.dell.com/uk/p/inspiron-15...?ref=PD_Family
