And I mean't that even if the edition will not activate ie after the reinstall of 7 a call to MS and explaination will allow it

Is there anything official on downgrade rights as i would like to see it all in writing?

ie... Yes i can upgrade a retail 7 to windows upgrade 8 version and then downgrade again without messing up my licenses, i do understand both licenses wouldnt work at the same time though, but my worry is it will kill my windows 7 license, that is what i want to find out.

No it wouldn't. If you got a retail version, it's yours to do with as you wish. You can even uninstall it on one machine and install it on another. Only restriction is running on two machines at the same time

It's the OEM versions that are locked down hard and to the machine it came on, and need specific downgrade rights.

I've installed it and had it running for a few days now and everything seems ok however I've noticed something with Firefox. When I browse to a page, for the first second or so the text is slightly blurry, a bit like how it looks with IE9 then it goes back to normal straight away. Not a massive problem by any means though.

I've heard about a limited time cheap upgrade offer from Win7 to Win8 being offered by MS for Â£15 or thereabouts IIRC. Presumably this will be a download as opposed to a disc but if I take advantage of it and find I don't like it, I'm assuming (with my limited knowledge of PCs) I won't be able to go back to Win7 without a whole lot of fuss, if at all?

Can anyone clarify please. TVM as always.

I had been wondering the same but was assured on here that after upgrading to windows 8 for the limited time Â£24.99 (Â£15.00 is for a computer bought with windows 7 on it from a certain time i think) cost i could then install Windows 7 on another computer or go back to Windows 7 at a later date, if this isnt the case i would like to know before i take the plunge.

Returning to Windows 7 would probably require a reformat/reinstall and I reckon that as it's an upgrade you wouldn't legally be able to use the Windows 7 license on another PC, just speculation at the moment though.

Well this is in the Windows 7 terms from here http://www.microsoft.com/About/Legal...s/Default.aspx

So I read that as, as long as W8 is installed, then the W7 licence is no longer valid. So you can't use both at the same time. However, I see no issue with you removing W8 and reinstalling W7, as means that only one install is live

That is what i was worried about, so it sucks big time now, i may not upgrade as i don't want to lose my full windows 7.

I wonder how much the full version of Windows 8 will cost on release day?

EDIT- Just found some info saying the full version of Windows 8 won't exist, so the only options would be an OEM system builders or the upgrade!

It is possible that for the first time MS will let you transfer your system builders license to another PC.

It has been revealed that Microsoft’s Windows 8 Pro edition will allow customers to downgrade to an older version of Windows if you aren’t entirely happy with the latest iteration. Users can elect to install Windows 7 or Windows Vista in place of the new OS although it’s worth pointing out that you’ll be without a boxed retail version should you go this route.

It seems unlikely that most buyers would want to downgrade but as Engadget points out, there are a few scenarios where having options would be plausible. Manufacturers could include a copy of Windows 7 along with new PC purchases in order to give shoppers more flexibility.

These same companies could also sell new computers with Windows 7 pre-installed in the event that some users wouldn’t be comfortable spending money on a system with an OS they are unfamiliar with. A dual-boot option would be the perfect scenario for PC users to learn Windows 8 at their own pace but it’s unlikely we will see this.

Downgrading to Windows 7 might also be an option in the event you are running mission-critical software that might not yet be fully compatible with Windows 8.

It’s worth pointing out that Windows XP and earlier operating systems aren’t included in the downgrade rights. Furthermore, the service is only offered on OEM copies of Windows 8 Pro – retail versions and other editions of Windows 8 need not apply. Windows 8 will be launching on October 26, 2012.

it seems to go in and out of focus all the time, ive tried playing with settings like disabling smooth scrolling in firefox but no luck

with the amount of bugs in firefox at the moment ive just ditched it for chrome
