Could you provide a link to Sky stating that they've offered Atlantic to VM at a fair price? All I've seen from Sky is that Atlantic is "exclusive to Sky".

If it's available to other providers then what channel is it on on TopupTV? Talktalk TV? UPC Ireland?

I've said it before and I'll say it again. You're not going to see Sky Atlantic on any other provider until it moves to the Variety pack. While it's free to all Sky subscribers it will be Sky-only.

Hi Lew, two points to answer, Sky stated this when there was a meeting to discuss tv etc, and this was stated on DS, that this channel was offered to VM, cannot remember the date, but it was a couple of months ago.

Then if they did agree to pay the fee Sky would say they want the HD on the Sky HD package and then moaner #1 and moaner #2 would say how poor VM's negotiations were and they should have got a cheaper deal for customers.

Bottom line is that it is unlikely that Sky Atlantic will appear on VM any time soon.

And, of course, since those quotes, VM has said that they don't see it as a priority.

I agree with that.

VM seems to have decided that launching new channels is not something they want to do which is why very few channels have appeared throughout its existance. I see no sign that they are going to change this policy any time soon. Therefore, people wanting more channels would need to get Sky as I think it will be a long time before any new channels appear on VM.

I think what annoys people most isn't so much the lack of new channels but the fact that they are happy for channels to close and not to be replaced and also that they are happy to remove channels but again not make any atempt to replace them. The best example of the latter is music channels. VM has removed six music channels in its existance and has not replaced any of them.

I would be interested to know why VM has decided that launching new channels is something they have chosen not to do.

And in my mind they need to attract more tv customers not lose them and in not adding channels l believe this to be a big mistake in the long run.

I make that a net gain of 42 channels, and that's not counting the 14 Sky Sports Red Button streams. Ex-Telewest regions had fewer channels than ntl so have gained even more.

But perhaps you forgot to remember that prices have risen massively as well, of course things have improved since the NTL/TELEWEST days but you have to keep on improving and adding more channels as Sky will not stand still.

Den while I agree with you there is content out there that VM don't carry that's readily available on freesat , I can't agree with you in regards to VM competing on the channel front with Sky. BSKYB will always have a superior range of content to VM in much the same way as VM broadband will always be streets ahead of Sky's ADSL. BSKYB charge Â£10.25 which goes to funding the 54 HD channels available were VM offer a range of HD channels free so will never compete on HD content , this probably why they went down the TIVO route for OD , Internet apps and extra features to Sky+ to offer a completely different experience.

I make that a net gain of 42 channels, and that's not counting the 14 Sky Sports Red Button streams. Ex-Telewest regions had fewer channels than ntl so have gained even more.

Yes but two-thirds of those channels are HD simulcasts of existing channels. I know this thread was originally about ITV2 HD appearing on VM but I'm talking about new channels and not HD simulcasts of existing channels and when you take out HD simulcasts the number is not that much more than ten channel additions.
