Re: Adverts on Music on Demand

We havent used Music OD for a few weeks, today I tried again, on Tivo, and every video I've played has NO ads at the begining.

This is great! Have Virgin listened to us? Hope the ads on Music OD have gone for ever!

Re: Adverts on Music on Demand

Just played "murder on the dance floor" for grandaughter and had the filmflex advert. So some are still lurking on the TiVo.

Thanks for your comments about advertising appearing in and around our music on demand content. I am obviously saddened to hear that you, a valued customer of Virgin Media, disapprove of what we are doing in this area.

Perhaps it would help if I gave you some context to the decision we made to deploy advertising within on demand in the first place? As you know, Virgin Media has an unparalleled choice, range and depth of on demand content, ranging from catch up services from all of the terrestrial broadcasters through to a comprehensive library of music videos, and unfortunately the acquisition costs associated with such premium content have risen substantially over the last few years.

In response to the increasing costs of content, we recently decided to introduce a carefully controlled amount of advertising into the various on demand content genres featured on the Virgin Media service. With the views and opinions of paying customers like yourself uppermost in mind at all times, we will continue to keep downward pressure on the advertising levels deployed wherever possible. As an illustration of this point we are running a single advert before music videos and substantially less advertising around TV type on demand programming than that seen during the equivalent conventional "live" broadcast airing, and of course will continue to enable our customers to fast forward through advertising should they so desire.

On balance we believe that the on demand service that we offer, including a controlled amount of advertising, continues to offer fantastic value to our customers.

I do hope that this helps.

Thanks and regards,

Cindy
I, for one, completely understand the need to have advertising on video on demand. Clearly, the service needs to be paid for and unless VM makes the maximum use of VOD on its service, they will not have the incentive to provide good content on it.

However, an advert at the commencement of every single 3 or 4 minute long video is excessive. When you first go into the search, it could show one or two adverts, but then leave you uninterrupted for all subsequent searches in that session. They could also put in an advert at the beginning of the Playlist content and at the beginning of a concert, for example. That would be acceptable.

However, an advert at the beginning of each individual short video is over the top and is causing a decrease in viewing. This is not good!

Re: Adverts on Music on Demand

They could have adverts playing in the mini tv screen whilst you are searching for your content. I'm not talking the current stuff advertising what's on their own music on demand, but proper commercials.

Yes, that's a good idea, and also they could have ads on the search screens as well. There is plenty of opportunity for making money without upsetting everyone too much.

We are paying for the service, I am paying £30.50 for the XL tv package. Virgin might sat it's free for XL customers but I consider it to be part of the package I am paying for.

Re: Adverts on Music on Demand

I pay my subscription, I pay the licence fee, watch adverts in-between commercial channels, product placement, individual show sponsorships, adverts in the TiVo discovery bar, adverts for film flex in the mini view while I'm browsing on demand films...

How much more does my tv want from me?

Re: Adverts on Music on Demand

Agree. Had the trailer to Tron 7 times on 8 videos in a row. Sick of it and ive all but stopped using music on demand now. heading Sky's way soon as on demand was 1 of the features Sky couldnt offer me (music) but now its ruined with non stop bombardment of adverts so may as well get Sky

Re: Adverts on Music on Demand

I raised the complaint as recommended on this forum. But the response came back that there's no chance of changing the pre-ads.

We tried, we failed. Family won't be using MOD again.

Yes, but we are suffering with lack of content. Some record labels are not part of the arrangement with VM, so we are missing out. Madonna is a good example of a top artist that we cannot see because VM don't have the resources to pay the price demanded.

The last time I looked there was 100's of video's to choose from, hardly a lack of content. I would of thought the record company's/artists would be queuing up to have there material advertised for free. If people see a video they like it could lead to them buying the cd/dvd, perhaps virgin should be charging the record company's for including there artist video's.

Re: Adverts on Music on Demand

You can buy Madonna videos on M+ for 20p for 24hrs. I blame Warners for asking too much to make their artists videos free to view, but now we have Youtube on Tivo, which I've been using because of the ads on Music OD. I played some more videos today and only came across 2 ads. So maybe Virgin have removed some??

Re: Adverts on Music on Demand

Seeing the same advert (Filmflex in my case) at the beginning of every video I chose was bad enough, but when the ad finished and the video started there was no audio for about 5 seconds on many of the choices.

I am also paying for this service but quite frankly it is unfit for purpose!
