Re: Who should be the next Doctor Who?
They could do what they did with Have I Got News For You and have a guest Doctor each week seeing as they seem to be ignoring the thirteen lives rule...

I know, cos he played The Master not that long ago. I was just making the point that IMO Anthony Ainley played the definitive version of The Master.

*Well that wasn't what I said..or meant...

Curtis is a rather good writer, director and producer...One of my favourites.

Re: Who should be the next Doctor Who?
Could the regeneration not take place whilst Dr Who was in the past and some how have him re-habiting a former self due to some flaw in time/thingy? That way we could have one of the old Dr Who back.

Err how can it?Even a Time Lord has to follow a timeline.
Anyway I'd rather have someone new...or we could end up with Sylvester McCoy again.<shudder>

The new series production team have managed to shy away from anything excessively fanw***y so far. I expect they'll probably go for a straightforward swap from Tennant to someone whose star is rising in the same way his was when he took on the role.

Re: Who should be the next Doctor Who?
David Coulthard? I hear he's not got much on after this weekend
I still think we could see a female incarnation of the Doctor this time around.....

If a Time Lord had to follow all the rules we wouldn't have had this last regeneration. Story lines with loops in time and parallel realities have already made such a twist halfway possible.
I seem to remember an episode where 5? reincarnations of Dr Who all met up together for some reason. Surely that would have broken some time line law?
Tom Baker seemed quite open to the idea of revisiting the Tardis when I saw him on the TV last week on...I think...Have I Got News For You. On second thoughts ...not Tom Baker. I liked him the first time around but a second innings would be a tad tooooo much.

As an actor for a part like the Doctor, sure. Actually playing the Doctor, that depends.
Someone earlier in the thread raised the issue of whether or not it had been established if a Timelord could change gender during the regeneration process. AFAIK, it hasn't, though IMO it would be stretching credibility just that little bit too far just for the sake of appeasing feminists & the politically correct elements of the viewing public.

At the start of Destiny of the Daleks, Romana tried on different bodies (in much the same way we might try on clothes) before settling on the rather lovely form of Lalla Ward. A couple of them looked distinctly male, and one only looked vaguely humanoid, so it would seem that changing their apparent species is no problem, so I doubt that changing their apparent gender or apparent ethnicity would be any problem.

They weren't all present in the same time frame if I remember correctly..
Anyway I want a new doctor not a return to an older version..Some of them are a little too old for a younger generation which was why it began to go out of favour originally IMHO.

The Timelords temporarily removed them from their relevant timelines and moved them all to Galifrey at the same point in time.

A blast from the past ....The Five Doctors. The three Doctors shown here look really dated and seeing the companions again I can't believe how short we used to wear our skirts..

I do agree about the new Dr needing to be a younger one in order to keep the fans happy.
