As someone else mentioned when pretty much all my recordings happen in the 9pm-10pm slot on multiple channels, mostly sky1, bbc1, 5, syfy, fx, you quite often get lots of clashes in that time slot.

eg you watch a program at 9pm-10pm, record a program at the same time, then record a program on a different channel at 10pm-11pm.

With just 2 tuners, you may miss the end off the 9-10pm program as the tuner switches to record the 10-11pm channel. Or as with sky you get the epg flash up giving you warnings etc which nobody wants to see on VM.

I'll wait for all 3 tunes to be active until I switch. I work all funny hours so have my shows set to series link. My misses has the soaps set to record of an evening as she works during this time. 3 tunes help us a lot.

The way its going with keep losing channels and new ones not on the horizen we wont need 3 tuners anyway

Please explain! I do not understand what you mean. I am perfectly happy with the channel line up.

Not if you're doing it right. You have a general routine for tuning and processing the signals regardless of whether it is for viewing or recording. Then you have a module to handle viewing and a module for recording. Each of these should be re-usable code so that you could:-

• view multiple channels on each of the outputs (SCART, HDMI, RF, component etc. as applicable)
• view one channel as a picture-in-picture of another channel or the guide (which is just another video source anyway)
• record multiple channels

Some of the recent software changes for the search functionality, for example, don't seem to follow the principle of "reduce, reuse, recycle". The remote control handling routines seem to have been re-written and are not consistent with the behaviour of the remote elsewhere. It's not like there's oodles of spare memory to waste in some of the older boxes, so it's a bad thing in more than one way.

I mean surely the people who are going to sign up to this initially will be the people who have large HD screens and are going to want the HD channels at the start of the EPG.

If that's not possible for some strange contractual reasons can we somehow have a filter on the EPG so we can filter out SD ?

Now we have BBC1 HD, BBC HD, ITV HD, C4HD and Five HD it really is a bit of a wind up expecting us to dig through the epg for them.
